[Newegg] NewEgg Shellshocker: Sapphire Radeon 512MB Radeon HD 2400Pro $26 inc. Tax/Ship/Rebate

[rfdlink=116]NewEgg.ca[/rfdlink] has another interesting Shellshocker promotion today: the Sapphire 100262L Radeon HD 2400PRO 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready Video Card (retail) for $30.49 with free shipping. There's also a $10 mail in rebate available, so after taxes, shipping (more like $1 brokerage fee), and rebate, you're look at about $25 for the card. Pretty spiffy deal, in my opinion.

It's not a card you'd use for serious gaming, but for everyday use, light gaming, or for use in a slim-form factor case, or in a HTPC, it's certainly a good value at $26 all in.

I currently have a 6600GT with 128MB of RAM, I'm pretty sure this will beat, would this be a pretty good upgrade for me?

I don't do gaming just MCE and dual widescreen monitor.

I think the 6600GT would be comparable to the 2400pro ... probably not worth the upgrade, unless you are looking for a DVI connection

Hmm true but mine is DX9 and this supports DX 10 plus it supports HD.

Anyone know if we can use the newegg coupon from a while ago or is it done?

I have the 2400Pro and would recommend others to wait for the newly released 4350 and 4550 to drop in price. These are all cards aimed specifically for the HTPC market. You'll get much higher performance with the 4350/4550, an on-board audio chip, and an HDMI connection. Getting digital audio with the 2400Pro is somewhat of a challenge.

I got my BFG 512MB 6600GT from Staples for around $19.99 ($69.99 - $50 rebate) a year ago... so if the 2400pro is comparable to this, then it should at least be less than $20....

Note that this is a 64 bit card and is useless for almost everything.

It's a very good video card for HTPC without the fan noise.

Would this card be faster than the x800xl I have right now for gaming? I am mainly looking at this for watching 1080p mkv files, but I hope it's not worse than the x800xl for gaming!

Exactly. People use their computers for more than gaming.

It is considerably worse. Stick to your X800XL and use ffdshow or, if you need more performance, CoreAVC for decoding x264 MKVs.

Not really, it would be roughly equal, certainly not worth $20 to you.

If you're not gaming, you may appreciate the hardware video acceleration on this card, but it is less powerful than your 6600GT overall. I would only suggest it if you wanted a passively cooled card, and you find that you can't play HD videos well with the 6600GT.

This card is much worse at gaming than your X800XL
