Links? I can only find 1 site with a 7200rpm 1TB drive for $80 and that doesn't include taxes and shipping, so make it over $100. It's also slower than the black drives. I paid $67 shipped with taxes for each drive. Price/GB is not the only factor. Consider speed and the fact that you can buy 3-5 of these and get a nice RAID-5 array and get MUCH better performance for the same $ vs buying 2-3 slower, larger 1tb - 1.5tb drives.
+ as mentioned these drives have a 5 year warranty.Last edited by FerrisB; Nov 3rd, 2009 at 07:21 AM.

1tb $85 and you don't need to have it shipped.
If you look up the access time of this 500gb you'll find it isn't anywhere close to a raptor. Its only slightly better performance compared the average HD.
Most cases fit 4 - 6 HD's. If you're planning on storing data the last thing you want is all your drive bays maxed out with 500gb when you could toss in 1.5tb for cheaper ($110) or 2tb.
It comes down to need I guess, but I don't regard a 500gb HD with slightly above average performance for $67 a hot deal. Just my opinion.Last edited by lincoln; Nov 3rd, 2009 at 07:25 AM.

So you're going to pick it up and drive it to my house?
You also quoted an in store cash price. For most people (like me) that can't get to a CC location with cash, that drive costs $85 + tax + shipping. So call it $108. Again, what are you trying to prove?
God forbid this $67 drive doesn't compare to a $200+ Raptor.
Did you completely miss my point that for a RAID-5 array these drives will offer much better performance $ for $ vs the larger drives? Video editing, large format graphics work etc. Who said anything about storage? Also, what if you need 2 small drives for 2 separate computers. I just don't understand your need to crap on a thread because you don't personally need a smaller drive.Last edited by FerrisB; Nov 3rd, 2009 at 07:55 AM.

when I was looking at benchmarks on tomshardware, it looked like the 2tb drive, and 1tb drive was faster than the 500gb drive
why is this?? i thought size had nothing to do with the speed.
im looking for a fast hard drive for gaming. doesnt have to be absolute top of the line, but would 2x 500gb drives be much faster than 1, 1tb drive or 1.5tb drive? and if so how much faster

Performance wise, would a better option be the WD 640GB Caviar Blue at Canada Computers for $71+tax? It has 320GB platters instead of 250GB IIRC.

This deal is warm at best. It's been around this price these days.
Just a few days ago, I believe Newegg had this same drive on Halloween sale for $54 with free shipping.

Lame deal. NCIX had 640gb Black for $65 last week.
The 640GB Black drive is a MUCH better value, and faster.

These drives are in the same series so I think would be about the same speed. Best price including shipping right now is $73.14 at buy.com (add it to your cart for 5% discount) - $13 extra for 140GB more seems decent if you need it.
