Nextfone - VOIP Service - (first month free)$24.95 per month/unlimited North America
My "First" deal posting here so please be gentle... I searched around and did not find a reference to these guys.
I was with Comwave VOIP for a while but a friend just recommended this other company.. MyNextFone (http://www.mynextfone.com/)
They have two plans: (From their site)
1. ($24.95) - Talk North America Unlimited: Includes 12+ free call features with unlimited long-distance minutes to anywhere in North America
2. ($16.95) - Talk Basic 500: Includes 12+ free call features with 500 anytime minutes to anywhere in North America
Add in a promotional code of 'NS2020', its free first month service.
Personally:
The first thing that amazed me was the prices. $25 + tax for unlimited North America and all the call features. With the first month free and no contracts, I dont mind trying it out.
I signed up about a month back and had their box delivered in 4 days. Here's where the second thing blew me away. I had to wrangle with Comwave regarding setup but this one was a straight plug and play. I had it up and running under 5 minutes flat. (Think they have someone setting up a number and testing it since I saw a call before I received it in my Dialed calls history on their site).
The call quality so far has been brilliant and I am contemplating switching my primary phone from Comwave to these guys. The customer service was quite pleasant and helpful when I called them up to confirm the first free month of service.
They have a nifty feature where you get a local secondary number to various cities in North America for 4 bucks a month if you have someone far away. They get to call a local number and you get it on your primary line.
I wont even get into how much you save as opposed to Bell or Vonage as I am sure you can search the forums for that stuff. Even if you look up their site, they actually show a comparison.
Let me know if you guys have any questions and will try my best to answer them. Will let you guys decide if its hot or not. I think it is!

Do they require you to pay by CC or do they send you the bill monthly?

They take your credit card information upon signup so I am assuming that they will charge it monthly.
Edit: I was curious here so I called them up and the direct quote is: "For the convenience of our customers we do send out a monthly bill, but bill on credit card for simplicity."

O/S rates very reasonable too
Their O/S rates are very reasonable too (25 countries < 5c/minute).
Am curious at to what brand/model the adapter they supplied you with is?
Thanks,
Tom

Its a SMC adapter. Will update this with the model number when I get home.
It works as a router btw for people without routers or you can plug it directly into a router's LAN port

I am moving to a new place and I am very tempted to get it for 30 day trial
But I don't know if there will be trouble cancelling after 25 days or so if I don't like it
I signed up for C I A .com
I heard a lot of complaints and bad reviews about installation. But once its running its pretty good depending on Shaw Cable's service.
I live in Mississauga. Anyone care to commment about C I A .com
Maybe the K G B .com people may wanna comment on that

Nice. I have a router with phone connections (with Vonage right now) - can I use this with their services?

Time to dump Vonage - their $45 CDN/month is a little too much I say. If it were close to $30, that would have been nicer!

Woah... hot find. This deserves a thread unto itself...
BTW, the $16.99 per month for unlimited NA calling requires a twelve month term otherwise it is $19.99 per month (which is still hot for unlimited NA calling plus a ton of features).

A couple of red flags (not the good 'RFD' kind
) with this offer:
- mynextfone.com was registered just a few months ago, to someone who was attending university 2-3 years ago
- the domain was registered through and is hosted at Canaca/Acanac. So maybe this is an Acanac reseller of some sort.

I used Acanac VoIP last August and September. Decided to quit due to multiple endless troubles, interruptions in service and TERRIBLE customer support. I spent hours on hold waiting for support. Perhaps something has changed during the past months. But I'll pass.
