Hey guys, I don't know if this question has been asked but here goes. In order to quality for nexus pass, how often do I need to be traveling to the states? Right now I am an UBC student (so residing in Vancouver) and I plan to go down to the states more often for leisure. I'm thinking about at least once a week to go down there to visit places and get food during the weekends. I feel like this doesn't seem like a valid reason for applying; I just don't want to wait for long, congested lineups at the boarder. Also, regardless of the answer to the first question, if I do obtain a nexus pass does the vehicle I drive have to be registered under my name or could it be from my brother? Actually he owns a small firm and the vehicle is registered as a business vehicle. I don't use it unless its to travel down to the states.
I do meet the other requirements where I am a Canadian citizen and whatnot and no I have not committed any crimes. Thanks in advanced.
Edit: Would going down twice a week make a difference?

I'm a Ryerson student (residing in Toronto), I hold a Nexus card, and I head south once every two months or so. When I was interviewed for my card, the officials who interviewed me told me it was perfectly normal to have the Nexus for leisure.
They don't check what car you use; that's up to the BC government to maintain, unless the car's stolen.
Also, I take the bus. I haven't had any problems.

Actually they do check what kind of vehicle you drive. When you apply for nexus you need to provide all your vehicle details including VIN number. If the vehicle has a commercial permit than they might ask you more questions as nexus is not for commercial usage. Also even if your plate number changes they will give you a very hard time.

You're right that they do ask for that when you first apply. However, recently I went in to update my passport, and I had gotten a new car since I applied as well. My plate was the same, but they said they didn't need my new vehicle information...so I don't think they really care after you've applied. Maybe they only care about your license itself. Honestly, they can probably tell everything about you, your car, etc...when they access your file so they probably already know you changed cars lol.

Thanks for your replies. I might not register the vehicle in the end. Does any know what to put for the City of Birth if you're from Hong Kong? Also for my first name, do I have to use my given name (ie my chinese name) or can I use any name like Bob? All my other identifications have my chinese name execpt for my Mastercard which has "Bob". Thanks!

Awesome, that works in my favor. As I'm looking through the application, it seems that I can add another name under "Other name used" step. I guess I will use my given name for everything it asks and then add Bob for the addition name? Thanks.
Edit: Actually the second last step is asking for my "Conveyance Information". The only option is Vehicle which asks for everything like license plate etc. Can I leave this step blank (as I might travel with friends who have Nexus as well).Last edited by Deviatorz; Feb 21st, 2011 at 11:37 PM.

Ok cool thanks.
I hit another stumbling block, I'm not sure what I should put for the date in the "Employment History" step. I've been a student all these years (currently in my forth year), but if I where to go 5 years back I would be in high school. Therefore, for the "From Date" field, should I put in the date I started high school or do the same as what I did in the "Current Employment" step where I entered a date of when I first got into university? Thanks_______________

Nope, only put educational info if they ask for educational info. It's not a big concern, they most likely won't reject you for not having a previous job. What should concern you is that you won't have any visible ties with Canada.
As an aside, I used my Nexus card a few days ago heading to the USA. I've used my EDL all other times, but I decided to use my Nexus card this time. No problems, though they did interrogate me further regarding my education and all that.
