i like the beach in Port Elgin, much quieter, good for families. If you want a younger crowd, I'd choose Sauble. Not crazy about Wasaga personally...

Simcoe has half-decent beaches at Sibbald Point, Barrie, Jackson Point, Beaverton (very shallow bay, best for kids). Orillia is 1.5 hrs. but Lake Couchiching (sp.?) is much cleaner than Simcoe.

A little over 1 hour but Midland has the best beach in Ontario, IMHO. They are public but mostly used by the locals who have cottages or houses there. The place I visited was late Harold Ballard's cottage on the beach...I don't remember exactly where it was in Midland...but the beach was breath takingly clean with white sand and no crowds.
So if you find the Ballard's cottage...you have found the beach.Last edited by hammer; Aug 14th, 2006 at 08:50 AM.

i'd suggest sibbald point as well - it's an hr away and really nice.
sandbanks, grand bend and sauble are good too if you're willing to drive that far.
