Nintendo DS, Switch, what is the latest?

The Nintendo DS2, Nintendo Ds3, Xl and switch.

Has there been a new release of Nintendo DS3 XL or DS3? Or are they rewrapping the DS systems and putting it out again to get some new life?

Which system would be better to buy for kids?

It's 3DS and not DS3 btw.

The 2DS, 3DS and 3DS XL are all the same thing... XL has bigger screen and the 2DS is cheaper and removes the 3D screen.

Nintendo Switch is a console that happens to be portable as well... it's the successor to the WiiU and not part of the 3DS line at all.

If your kids are really young I'd go with a 2DS as it's the cheapest and has relatively simple games compared to the Switch. Otherwise, Switch all the way.

There are lots of cosmetic options, but internally there's just the original 2DS/3DS/3DS XL and the "New" 2DS XL/3DS/3DS XL. There are only a very, very small number of games which run on the "New" units but not on older units; otherwise, there is not a substantial difference.

The "New" 2DS XL is probably the easiest to find nowadays. It has a bigger screen, but no 3D. A lot of people don't particularly care for the 3D and it has never been necessary for gameplay.

I'm not sure if the 3DS would be better for kids rather than the Switch. I might be inclined to suggest buying a used DS or DSi ; they'll probably be much cheaper, though the better games might be a little hard to find.

If you have kids under, say, 11, get them the original 2DS. It wouldn't fold like the new 2DS or 3DS does, its just one solid body with 2 screens. The one-piece design should make it more durable, plus it comes with a Mario Kart game (downloadable). Some versions come with different games, but the Mario Kart version is the most common.
It plays everything the 3DS does, plus older DS games. These used to go on sale for ~$90, and they might get clearance sales if it hasnt happened already (because of the new 2-piece 2DS). Great deal and great for small kids to use.
