No More 3rd Party Rogers / Fido iPhone 5 Unlocks

Just an FYI, from now on, you'll likely notice suppliers no longer unlocking iPhone 5 for Rogers / Fido.

Any particular reason as to why this isn't happening anymore?

Rogers probably caught/fired the guys that were doing it inside. Unless Rogers had decided to intentionally turn a blind eye, it was bound to happen.
2015 wins: Trip for 2 to NYC with airfare, limo, hotel and insurance ($3700); Maple Leafs tickets($250); 32GB HTC One M9 ($700), Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1($200), Samsung Galaxy Note 5($850), Aukey 2 port fast car charger($23), Fitbit Flex ($120), Blue Piston Bluetooth Speaker ($30). 2016 wins: nada

Well, all other iPhone models won't be impacted -- just the 5.

That's peculiar. I wonder how the 5 differs.

I thought that the internal guys would had a dump of IMEI of all the latest iP5 stock they had ... for example they hand out the IMEI list + unlock from their last shipment and every time they get a new shipment they would send out updates sort of thing!

They must have put some sort of safe guards for the Iphone 5... Curious as to what they did....Perhaps only one guy has the password.

Why does anyone care?

You buy a Rogers iPhone, because you're on Rogers, if you travel outside of the country, what are your chances of finding a micro SIM?
Uh, because people travel? The main reason people buy on contract is because it's subsidized pricing. And finding a microsim isn't all that bad. I bought a nano sim cutter/stapler thing when I do travel with my iPhone 5

What happens to existing iPhone 5's that have 3rd party unlocks?

You will find out once you actually travel that, even in "third world" countries, micro SIMs are immensely easy to find.

Micro SIMs are easy to find, of chop down a regular miniSIM. Nano will be more difficult in both regards. But for anyone that travels out of the country even once per year can save a ton using local SIMs.
