No more crazy shop.ca deals?

It's been a while since there's been a good shop.ca deal. In the past, it seemed like they always had at least 1 crazy deal going on. 20% ebates cashback, $50-75 off coupons, Paypal promos, etc. Oftentimes stacking too.

But lately... nothing. There was the TD Aeroplan Visa $50 promo, but that was more from TD than shop.ca.

Anyone else miss the crazy deals? Anyone know what's up?

I think they stopped having pizza parties, realized that 99% of their company was made up of clueless marketing students, and got down to trying to make $ instead of losing it.

How they raised $52M in venture capital by being a drop-shipper is still a mystery to me. I don't know anyone who has overpaid for anything there without a coupon/cashback. Once that $52M marketing budget is gone so will this company.

I can't believe Shop.ca is still in business. No one would buy anything there unless they give you $50 off

Seems like 1 % is the norm now through Ebates.ca.

Hardly worth the effort now

Maybe this is the adios , amigo from shop.ca !

I think Shop.ca will fold soon.

Also this is the demographic shop.ca is targetting:
Shop.ca wanted to aim its 30-second TV commercials at four different types of consumers it described as fledgling families, young metro diversity, prosperous parents, and middle-aged achievers.

In short, people with money.

I wouldn't buy anything from shop.ca unless they offer 20% Ebates cash back again.

I would love to see their order stats for the past couple weeks.

Can't see myself buying anything off of them without a proper discount. Hell, the only reason I found this thread is due to searching for a shop.ca promotion for a product I was interested in buying. Sucks to see nothing lately.

Oh well. Local franchises it is.

Looks like they spent all their marketing budget the first 6 months of operation.

Yah, there's no way they earn a profit. The prices are really high. Even with the crazy coupons only a small slew of the stuff seemed to be cheaper with 20 to 30 (sometimes 50%) off coupons. I would assumed they didn't make much (or any) profit with the coupons and I don't see anyone shopping there without them.

Come to think of it, they didn't have a promo for the Raps playoff run, did they?

I doubt their goal was to ever make a profits I think they probably figured they could establish a customer base for $50 mil and then sell to another major online retailer for $100 mil. Likely a fail. Not Target-in-Canada fail, but still a pretty big fail.

I'm sure RFD caused them to lose too much money in 2013. Thanks Swiss Chalet!

Yeah, 2013 was epic. I bought a Nexus 7, DSLR and a bunch of other stuff for enormous discounts.

believe Torstar put up most of the dollars.
even if they do close, the exit contracts have been written and the cash set aside for the payouts should shop.ca ever close.

I remember reading Shaw is in for over 30M. All they need to do is increase cable costs twice a year instead of once to keep them afloat for eternity.
