I checked with Telus they said even if I'm not a Telus customer they will unlock a Telus phone for free for me
So how does that work? Do you simply walk into a Telus booth and they can unlock it in store?

I am wondering whether if I buy it now, would it be unlocked? If not, is the carrier liable to unlock the phone after December 1 even if I had it for 20 days? Thanks guys!

give lots of head for sick knee fadez, give lots of lap dances for ca$h wallet fades. Always pop that leg when kissing for dope honey combs, knee lots of mans in the crotch for killer whiskers, low ride like an og for them stacks. And traintracks? Only achievable by a legend in the denim game

Bell & Virgin units are already unlocked, Rogers will unlock for free if you buy it outright. Not sure on Telus, but probably very similar.

That said, wait times to get am iPhone X are several weeks now, so good luck fitting one before December 1st anyways

Isn’t Apple unlocking all active Canadian iPhones over the air on Dec. 1 anyway? Get it now if you can.

They are not doing anything "over the air." When you put in a new SIM Card in an iPhone, it checks in with Apple's servers. They will just change the lock status on their servers.

Koodo iPhones are already unlocked. I'd imagine it's the same for Telus

So even if you bought a phone before dec 1, the carrier is obligated to provide an unlock code for free after dec 1?

Update: These are the devices that Bell and Virgin are currently selling unlocked

Bell/Virgin already carry certain phones unlocked. As of November 3rd, there will be a blue dot sticker on phones that are still locked.

The following phones are already unlocked (meaning no blue dot stickers for these)
  • All iPhones, iPads and Google devices
  • Samsung Note 8
  • BlackBerry KEYOne (upon completion of software update)
  • Motorola Z2 Play
  • ZTE Grand X View 2 Tablet
  • Alcatel GoFlip and Pixi 5
  • LG Q6
What about Telus? I would like to know if Telus' Note 8 comes unlocked or not.

My guess is that TELUS Note 8 is unlocked, since I doubt Samsung would carrier-lock Note 8's just for one carrier, just for a couple months.

Regardless, if you grab a carrier-locked phone now, within a month, you get the unlock code at no charge from carrier.
