Gah, as an owner of an N800 and N810, this price point is a bit much!
Love the tech and feel though...

Nokia N900
Not really a deal per se, but those who were looking at amazon.com, the nokia US site, or ebay; if you order from shopblt.com you can get it shipped to Canada.
I was looking at amazon getting shipped to Niagara Falls and going across the border to pick it up, but this way you don't have to worry about it.
Came to $626.76 USD with USPS Priority to the GTA.
Actually works out to be cheaper than amazon due to NY state tax of getting it shipped to Niagara.

The N900 is just too big of a phone for Nokia to stick it on an odd ball 3G frequency. Don't be suprised if you see a AT&T/Rogers/Bell friendly N900 in a few weeks.

N97 has a ton of games(n gage) and software. However, lot not of stuff is not in centralized web site.
Being that the N900 is maemo based off of debian(Linux). Maemo can run lagely unmodified inuix packages unlike Android. It will have a ton of new software to add to the many apps already available for Maemo. It's not like Maemo is new to the block

The 1700 is odd-ball, but the other band it has, 2100, is used everywhere else outside of the Americas.
Nokia already said they're not going to do another version of this phone. Instead, they are working on a N920 (but no physical keyboard) to be released late next year. You'll probably see more bands on that.
Your only choice for this phone is 2G on Rogers and Fido, or 3G on WIND, DAVE Wireless, Videotron, or if Rogers/Bell/Telus decides to use the AWS spectrum they already bought.

The only official annoucement made by Nokia, about more bands for the N900, is that they haven't annouced anything about additional bands. They have not mentioned anything about "not doing doing another version."
It would be very easy for Nokia to slip a new radio in the N900 and get it out in the next month.

It's actually even cheaper to order from MobileCityOnline...
It's $604.99 shipped (USD) to Canada.

This is indeed a nice phone, but $600 can buy you a nice laptop too... I wish the high end phones didn't always cost so much. In any case, I'm excited for Wind Mobile, and I'm curious to see how their phone pricing works out (as they are not having term contracts).

this phone looks sick. I am trying to rationalize the price by sayting that it replaces the need for a laptop. I really don't do much portable computing.

The N900 has native flash support, so you can play whatever flash games you like on it. I believe there was a video showing it playing desktop tower defence
