I hadn't heard of this before. Have you optimize settings on your XP? Such as increase the pre-fetch cache?

Nvidia 8800 stuttering issue
Hi guys, I just picked up an Evga 8800 gts 320mb last week to replace my 7900 gtx. It's an awesome card but there's a huge issue, the graphics stutter. I know that sounds weird, but what it'll do is I'll be playing a game it'll be running perfrectly smooth and then all of a sudden when new textures load it'll pause for about half a second and then continue running smooth. This happens in any game from COD all the way to newer games like Vegas.
I've run a search on the net and and it seems like everything with G88 cards are having the problem despite updating the drivers, etc.
Anyways if anyone has any input or solution, I'd appreciate the help.

never heard of it.... and I run the 8800gtx.
I am sure you probally tried stuff.... but I would start basic.
Unistall drivers, using driver cleaner (do nvidia and ati)
reboot and install the latest drivers.....
then I would do basic maintenance.... defrag, virus/spyware scans... and update all your other stuff (bios, drivers, chipset etc)
from that point... I would think its the card._______________

Whenever I do a gfx card install and there are issues, I'll just reinstall windows. Usually faster than spending hours troubleshooting.

Here's a link.
I always keep my bios and firmware up to date for all my hardware, so that's not the issue. Defragged last week. Uninstalled the vid card drivers, then installed the 100 series beta one's and still stutters.
I've contacted Evga but still haven't heard anything back yet.
I thought it might be a power supply issue so I backed the overclocking on my vid card back to stock and set my processor and ram to stock but still it was there. I know the PS is not the issue, so it has to be the drivers.Last edited by lincoln; Apr 1st, 2007 at 12:26 PM.

tried the 158.8 drivers and still get stuttering..... only when there's smoke and explosions which leads me to think that the video card and drivers are conflicting with the core2duo processors. I tried limiting the processor in games to 1 core with little improvement in the stuttering issue.

Stop trying.............
This issue is bigger than you think and touches anybosy who owns a gf8 video card and plays games that uses the ut1, ut2 and ut3 engine witch is ALOT of games and for now stutters only in xp systems.
There is a thread going on on the nvidia forums itself and has been going for over a year now here is the link......
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=23904
Its worth a look and with your help we might have a chance of waking up nvidia but most users have sold their gf8 for an ATI HD...
WE NEED YOU!!!

The issue is dynamic lighting witch is handled differently on the gf8 video card and vista, so nvidia ONLY made the fix available for vista and left XP in the dust.
There is nothing wrong with anything else than your video card, nothing else works although playing fps games that are affected with the weapon hidden fixes about 50% of the problem but still stutters.

Gf9 Aslo Affected With Stuttering!
Yup the GF9 chip is also affected with the stuttering issues in games, the way i see it is that Nvidia will now have no choice but to fix this or they will be boiling water, not to say they already are but this is actually good news for GF8 users..... just keeping you up to date...

Ummm, thats because the 3870HD does come VERY close for half the price and also because everybody is changing to ATI just because of this and this problem has been going on for over 2 years and STILL going on for the GF9. If you would like to see how bad the problem is look at this thread http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=23904 and yes they are in hot water because they have ported a 2year old problem onto their brand new chip so,, are you going to buy a gf9?, if you do well good luck selling it.....
