NVIDIA GTX 1080 & GTX 1070 are out now (GTX 1080 Ti is on the way!)

This is an insane video card deal...

The new Pascal GTX 1080 card performs faster quite a bit faster than a Titan X or 980 SLI, for a fraction of the cost.

GTX 1080: $599 USD = ~$775 CAD now $499 USD

GTX 1070: $379 USD = ~$489 CAD

2.114 GHz GPU Clock, 8GB GDDR5X memory, 180W TDP (how?) ... insane! you'd be crazy to buy a video card at this point

The GTX 1080 launches May 27, and the GTX 1070 on June 10 which for $500 CDN will probably be equivalent to cards currently $1000+

EDIT: GTX 1080 Ti announced, see last pg for details

Founder's Edition?

Is the money from that video card going to Jen to help him pay off the Founder's Edition Model X he got in September?

Just how long had they been working on this?

I feel as if the GPU industry is going downhill seriously. It's obvious it's getting harder and harder to miniaturize the transistors and we're really close to hitting a wall.

Yes these cards are very expensive but NVidia and AMD always have to invest exponentially more in R&D. I really doubt they have anything more than thin margins.

So we should also see a card around $200 that's faster than a 970 then, no? 'Cause if not, this isn't really that exciting because I'm certainly not spending no $500 on a videocard.

How fast is the 1070 anyway?

Also it seems like they're suddenly getting out ahead of AMD... Wasn't it previously speculated Nvidia cards would launch closer to year end, not in just a few weeks?!? I'm guessing they are trying to put the hurt on AMD though at least they are expected to launch lower end cards with Polaris 11 and even Polaris 10 ain't gonna be that high end. Of course pricing remains to be seen but I'm guessing with this announcement they're going to be forced to have low prices (no one is going to buy Polaris 10 if it costs the same as a 1070, which is probably going to beat up on it in performance).

Why would they cut prices when they already have a clear lead over AMD?

Man, and I thought Kepler to Maxwell was an impressive jump. Very excited to see initial benchmarks!
When given enough time, all threads on RFD can and will go off on a tangent.

Didn't he get that for free given Nvidia is some kind of partner with them?

Curious to see what the $599 translates to. Even at 30% we're still under $800 which is pretty awesome. My guess is the 1080 will remain in the $900+ range.

Im likely in for one.

Normally, they're supposed to be fully paid upfront. It is possible that it was free since Tesla uses Tegra chipsets in their cars.

I wonder if Nvidia will add a Ludicrous upgrade in the future?

this is probably the biggest video card generation leap in a very long time, or maybe ever?
chevyz07 wrote: Why would they cut prices when they already have a clear lead over AMD?
to completely decimate them :)

R.I.P. AMD Markham

...
those cards are coming too! Nvidia said in their Twitch stream today that their entire Pascal line is equally groundbreaking, so i wouldn't be surprised to see a $200 card faster than 970 by the end of the year.

this thing was designed with VR in mind, and people are spending nearly double that for VR headsets (Oculus $850, Vive $1150, etc.)

Probably because the whole PC industry is in decline, and nobody buys ultra expensive computers any more.

They should learn from Intel and only increase performance by 10% every year; or maybe they realized that nobody buys new computers/graphics cards for 10% increase any more.
