How does taxation and redistribution help? A country doesn't create wealth by taxing. Taxes destroy wealth. Wealth is created through capital investment which creates jobs. What a backwards logic socialists have. There will be no money to tax if your goal is tax and redistribute.
Let's agree to something here. In simple terms, wealth is created by putting more into a system than you take out of it. The surplus of this system is wealth. On paper, wealth is revenue generation and it is what you are conflating wealth with. Things you can trade for other things. The public sector has in many ways abstracted this concept because the ways in which wealth is generated (putting out a fire for example) is not directly generating revenue because it doesn't exist in a capital market. The firefighter's salary may not have generated new wealth, but it prevented the destruction of existing wealth. What's that worth? According to you, it has a negative value because in your world, when we tax something to pay for it, it destroys wealth, but when someone profits from it in a trade, then wealth is created.
.. but you must be able to see it's not that simple. Tell me how wealth is 'destroyed' by a firefighter's salary who puts out a fire. Tell me how wealth would be 'created' if that firefighter worked in the private sector? If the net result is the same (the fire is put out) then the net effect on wealth is zeroed. If the firefighter works for the private sector, what you have is a black book with a number on it.. and it seems that is your definition of wealth creation.
The whole point of lowering capital gains and dividends taxes is to make Canada a more attractive market to invest in (i.e. so capital doesn't leave Canada). If you raise taxes, capital will get invested elsewhere (i.e. there will be no capital gains to tax). That means less jobs, less of a tax base, etc. The goal should be to CREATE JOBS, not create welfare recipients.
It would be nice if you would at least acknowledge my points before launching into yours. I know why tax cuts incentivize job creation. I watch political talk shows, I understand the talking point. Your point was that it was better for everybody. My contention was, "better than what?" The fact is, you don't have an answer because you're not willing to even entertain the idea of a public coffer. You just erase it from the equation.
There will be no money to tax if rates are raised as capital will go elsewhere...
Public sector jobs are the best? Are you insane? The public sector destroys wealth. Every dollar spent by government is a burden to the economy and decreases the wealth of Canadians. It is no wonder you are making the arguments you are...you don't understand basic economics.
See above.

The most important thing that stimulates growth in an economy is demand. Demand increases based on how much money is circulating in the economy. Money flows better when it is in the hands of lower class people, who are constantly spending 100% of what they make, and are the real reason anything gets "made" in the first place.

I think that was more true back in the days when stuff was produced domestically. Now, the poor are just shipping money over to other countries through their spending, so the benefits internally of their spending are greatly reduced and pretty much just guaranttee them a future of working in unskilled, low paying retail/service jobs.
Back to the topic, this is just Barrie pandering for votes from the poor/working class by verbally throwing some rich ppl under the bus (once elected, he'll backpedal or bury it to protect the rich anyways).Last edited by stealth; Apr 12th, 2012 at 12:38 PM.

Yeah, Hitman. Don't beat yourself up. There's worse things in the world than being a slightly more illiterate and less compassionate form of DearSummer.
