It's nonsense. The stock LG camera app is great.

He's talking about the camera app that someone from XDA ported over from the Pixel phones. Try it if you want. I like the stock app much better.

See here:

https://www.xda-developers.com/google-c ... ngle-lens/

The wide angle lens works also.
Great except at taking pictures. Just very very disssapointed with the G6 when it has worse camera than the 6P I was coming from and worse battery life as well and of course very behind in security patches and os updates

I used this phone for close to 3 months now and am switching back to the 6P. Will wait to see if/when Oreo helps with battery life but camera is a lost cause. What were they thinking especially the front camera

Here is someone else's impression going from a 6P to the G6, you seem to like Reddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/commen ... h=03c70a6d

I'm not sure why you haven't received the latest G6 update which fixes the battery drain issue.

As for the camera, here are reviews of both phones' cameras on DXOmark:

https://www.dxomark.com/google-nexus-6p ... otography/

https://www.dxomark.com/lg-g6-mobile-re ... -pictures/

They both scored the same (84). Except the G6 also has the wide angle lens. The G6 camera is better.

Guys, I forgot to mention a couple other battery saving tips:

- clear the data of the Google Play Services app in the app settings
- in backup and reset, turn back up my data "off" (note that your data will no longer be backed up, though)
- under the security settings, to into usage access and turn off as much as possible

I hope that helps you guys! All of that is probably not necessary but I notice a big difference on my phone.

Coming from Samsung S7 and Note5 to G6, the camera on G6 is insanely inferior ... I regret selling my old Note 5/S7 :(

The s7 scored 88 on DXOmark versus 84 for the G6. Not a huge difference IMO. Plus that's just the main camera. The G6 also has the wide angle lens.

Lots of hate for the LG G6, as usual for LG phones on RFD. I paid $270 for mine on Black Friday. At that price I really don't know how people can complain about it or compare it to more expensive phones like the Pixel or the Galaxy S8. For $270 this thing is a steal. I have been using LG phones since the G3 and the G6 is bar none their best phone to date IMO. It's not the most ground breaking, but it's a very nice device in a very sleek package. It's got significantly nicer industrial design than the Apple phones, along with better cameras, a micro SD card slot, and an (arguably) better OS. Did I mention it only costs a fraction of the price? If you guys can find me a nicer phone for $270, I'm all ears. Otherwise I think you need to step away from this thread and find a new outlet for your hate.

Dxo doesn't reflect real world results and only measures tech aspects. The hardware itself (at least rear camera and as long as not the 2.09mm wide angle ) is not terrible, it's the processing and camera app that fails for the G6 , hence why it can get a decent dxo score but produce inferior pictures

G6 has horrible processing for pictures. Just like how Sony has great sensors and used in many phones but when they use it in their own phones, the pictures are bad

Its poor processing and software

Exactly...for $270 it's a good buy, but don't pretend it's comparable as the Samsung galaxy S7 or older nexus 6ps or any of the pixels

Its a good phone for $270 price range

That's only reason I got this phone...cheap price but worse camera and battery life than my old 6p means it's a downgrade for me and G6 is now the backup phone

I disagree completely. LG has always had among the best smartphone cameras. Just for fun I took some side by side shots using the stock LG camera and also the Pixel camera for the G6 and I noticed virtually no difference, even zoomed in.

There are numerous reviews out there which state just how good the LG cameras are, and that goes for the G6, the G5, and the G4. The G3 and G2 were no slouch, either.

You're zeroing in on one feature and you're completely ignoring the fact that the G6 has a wide angle lens. If you knew anything about photography you might actually care about that. I use it all the time on my camera and it captures pictures I would not have otherwise been able to take. That is much more meaningful than a 4% difference in review score according to DXOmark, or a minuscule amount of blurring due to processing that you can only see if you zoom in 50X.

The G6 blows the 6P and the Galaxy S7 out of the water. Don't kid yourself. Those are previous generation phones.

I don't know what it scored. I am looking at the pictures done with S7 (Not even S8) and similarly with G6 and I can visually see lots of grain in pictures, no clarity, similar light and other conditions. Do I need to have a PhD in photography to be able to take good pictures with the damn phone?

You are coming across as uninformed. The s7 and the s8 have the exact same camera. No difference.

As for your negative comments about the G6 camera, see here:

But I guess we should just listen to you guys with your negative comments, right? Nonsense.

Way poorer processing on the G6. There's a reason why all user forums bash the camera on it. And not exact same

The G6 is only worth it as $260 phone and comparable to other phones in this price range

https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/ ... 6-t3699564

https://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-g6 ... d.html?amp

But the rear camera is least if it's problem...useless front camera, terrible battery life, no updates and erratic patches are the main issues

Ok guys I think I have solved the idle battery drain issue once and for all. It's because of the Google assistant. If you turn off the ok Google voice detection it solves the idle drain issue completely at least as far as I can tell.
