You should connect the mouse to the device before going into recovery mode.

If you are thinking of a generic Android TV Box with free apps or subscription based apps to watch HK and China shows, there are loads to choose from.

I have just bought a Xiaomi Mi Box 3 (Model MDZ-16-AB) International Version from eBay for US$84 - US$15 (with coupon) = US$69. I think netflix HD will work on this box too.
https://www.ebay.ca/itm/253265186346

Need to use eBay app on your cell phone, pay with PayPal and use coupon PSHOPAPP - coupon is valid today only until 6pm Pacific Time
Thanks for the info.
Are the free apps pre-loaded in the box? How to find/pay the subscription based apps to watch HK and China shows?

Got this reply from hrsj800:
2017.11.26日公告:機房網絡故障,預計12小時內恢復。,造成不便請見諒。
It will take 12 hours or less to rectify a network fault in the computer room.

Hello,
I am a new member to this forum.

I have learned a lot and keep experiment with my locked out Moon Box from your contributions and suggestion in this forum.
Just want to thank you everyone in here to save my Moon Box M3 (black box version) from being locked out.
The timing in resetting Moon Box M3 is still difficult to manage properly in the beginning. After sometime I
came up an reliable method to control the timing.

I would like to share my experience in resetting the MOON Box M3 in here.
You must have a USB mouse or keyboard connected to the Moon Box for option selection while you are in the Android screen.
The simple rule is 7 sesame timing technique.
(1) When plug in the power, start to count "One sesame"
(2) keep counting to the end of "Two sesame" push in and hold the reset pin.
(3) Continue counting "Three sesame", " Four sesame", and so on.
(4) When count to the end of "Seven sesame", release the pin.
(5) The TV screen will have blank screen and just let the Moon Box to reset itself.
(6) After 20 seconds or so, the android menu screen will show up.
(7) Then select factory reset or other options you may perform.

Of course I have blocked the outgoing communication to the Moon Box server before resetting the box.

Hope this helps.

BTW I would like to learn more about why and how to root of the Moon Box M3.
Really appreciated if you would kind enough to show me why and how.

Thanks in advance.

It is not difficult to install the Shafa Market app. Just use the browser on any Android TV box to google for it from the developer's website. Then download and install it on the box.
http://www.shafa.com/market

You can do it now with your existing TV box. All my past and current boxes have Shafa Market installed this way.

To watch Chinese geolocked videos, just google ChinaTunnel app and install it.

Hi drdtyc,

Thanks for the info about http://apk-dl.com/chinatunnel.
However this apk requires a rooted device to work properly.
Should I root my Moon Box M3 (black box version) before I could install this apk?
If rooting is required, would you please show me how to do the rooting on Moon Box M3.

Thank you.

Install and open the Shafa Market app.

Go to Tools> About Device

It may show Root Access = Open.
if so, no need to root.

I have never rooted my M3S but it is already rooted.

ntydke500's post was very helpful for my black M3. Gets me into recovery mode almost every attempt. Having a USB mouse and the sdcard inserted on power-up seemed to make it harder. My 2cents.
