We don't need no stinking headset. That's what the stereo speakers/earphone jack and built-in mic are for![]()

Ah, can't do it yet. Software and Headset hasn't been released. Can't wait! That'll be great!
We'll just have to gather in malls for now hehe.Last edited by Doug; Nov 24th, 2004 at 07:52 PM.

If this could do any sort of internet app, like email, msn or browser thru a Wi-Fi, I'd buy it in a sec. Would be awesome if it could run a ported over sniffer like Netstumbler for N-DS.

That'd be cool.

Hehe, there's something I'd love to have on it but it's kindof weird... :P
At university our professor had a simple program for testing how good a speaker was. Basically you feed a speaker white noise and then sample what comes out with a microphone. It then displays the speakers frequency response on a computer screen so you can tell how good it is.
I'd love to have that on the DS if I go out speaker hunting.
I'd want to have a good microphone tho.Last edited by Doug; Nov 25th, 2004 at 11:16 AM.

I'm intrigued by this. The games look good but my question is: How useful is this for non gaming purposes? I'm guessing not very.
I heard there's a simple daytimer app, a drawing screen and it can send messages back and forth to other DS users. The daytimer app will not sync with a pc via USB, right? It's all proprietary Nintendo only, I assume.
I would buy this if it was useful for more than just the games.

so let me get this straight, there is a Instant messanger built into the system. whats the proximity, do the people who send the message have to be like 10 feet away to get it or something?

Nov 25th, 2004 02:52 PM #22As is, not very. There's already a group working on tunnelling software, which would let the DS connect to a wireless router.

It's 802.11b, so 30-100 feet.

Someone was testing it in an open area. They got 380 feet before loosing the signal with Picto Chat, and 168 feet for Metriod Hunters. These use the protocol that Nintedno made and not the 802.11b .
Oh and here's a screenshot of a surgery game to be released in Japan. Kenshui Tendo Doctor

That's good news. If it works out it will be an instant success. Much like how Xbox is popular only because of it's hackability.

The DS is not a pda. It has the ability but the big N didn't put one in.
The calendar in there is useless and the alarm clock is quite weak.
I read Nintendo disabled the Pictochat's automatic wake function where it turns on when there is another DS nearby. Too bad there's no way to reenable that.
The DS supposedly can do normal 802.11b in addition to Nintendo's proprietary protocol._______________

i got mine first day. I love it, i got mario 64DS with it. Graphics are great, and the mini games are real fun. The only thing i don't like is the size, like when i got gameboy pocket and gameboy color i thought things were getting better.. Gameboy advance came out it wasn't so bad, and then SP, that thing was (and still is amazing) it was truley portable. This one is kinda big, but i wouldn't doubt in 2 years they will come out with a slimline one without the gameboy advance option. Besides the size, i love the thing, and can't wait to multi play people, i have yet to encounter anybody with one.

Ok, check this link out I got on the IGN board: http://www.1101.com/nintendo/band_bros/DS-demo.html
It is a demo of 6 people playing Band Brothers (called Jam with the band here).
When I watched the video all I could think was "Wow! That is SO cool!" This game has gone from "oh another music game" to "Really want to import"
Seemingly that particular song is from Full Metal Alchemist (Haven't seen it yet
)
Also you can input your own tune by humming into the microphone! It converts it into a song.
Nintendo.com
If your solo career isn't flying, you can always join a band. An unlimited number of people can link up for a massive jam session, as long as all players are in wireless range and have their own game cards.
Plus, up to eight people can jam together over a wireless connection with just one game card. If you aren't in the mood to play one of the included songs, you can create original compositions just by humming into the microphone.
There's Some videos at IGN DS Here
Does Canada have any online import game shops?
I only know of american ones like www.ncsx.com/
----------------------------------------------------------------
OK another thing. Someone tried putting in their Gameshark or whatever for Gameboy Advance. In the start-up menu, the Nintendo DS said "Option Pack Detected"
So it looks like there is a reason why the Nintendo DS cases have a spot for NDS games and GBA games. Seemingly it will be used for a rumble pack or tilt pack. I guess it could be used for many things, like a camera or storage card. Pretty nifty.
