.
The login is cookie based, so trying clearing all of your cookies. It's probable that you have some conflicting cookies.

Well, I have tried logging off, clearing cookies, restarting FF, and then logged in using the web page = the toolbar still thought I was logged off.
I tried clicking the "log in" on the toolbar but it doesn't seem to do anything.
BTW - is there any reason why the coupons icon on the RFD toolbar looks identical to the reatailmenot icon in the status bar?

Hmm ... so when you click the "login" button, NOTHING happens at all? You should be directed to the login page.
If nothing it happening, it sounds like possibly some other addon is conflicting with our toolbar. What other addons do you have installed?
As for the icon - it is an icon from a very popular free icon collection and being the same (or similar?) would be pure coincidence.

No wonder it's a popular icon collection, it's very cute!

Something peculiar
I decided to try to figuure out what was causing the conflict iwth RFD and disabled a bunch of extensions. The RFD toolbar now works, but I noticed something peculiar.
Kaitlyn had asked me how I selected the option "Icons only" for the toolbar, and I wrote:

The curious thing is that this no longer works... Right-click on the red R of the RFD toolbar does nothing...

Ya... I never created that option so I was confused on how you did it
If you have the time, I'd ask you to re-enable them 1-by-1 until it stops working again. Would give a better sense of what addon it is conflicting with and then I can figure out WHY and if its something that needs to be fixed...

When I re-enabled All-in-One Sidebar then I get the icons-only behaviour. Something seems to have been disabled permanently now as I no longer get the deals ticker on the right side of the toolbar.
I will keep trying the various extensions to see if I can find out the one that conflicts with RFD.

The conflict is with the Torrent Finder toolbar: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2755
That extension is a world-class load of doggy doo-doo anyway, and I was going to uninstall it but never got around to it... Well, it is uninstalled now.

I actually uninstalled RFD toolbar, restarted, installed RFD, restarted, hoping to get the ticker back, but it is gone... RFD remembered my login somehow, so maybe it is data-driven...
