Thanks for the input. I've taken the time to look further, decided to go with the Yokohama Avid H4S at 110 each for 195/65r15. All in all, a better tire and peace of mind on the road.

Online, at http://www.lespneusmoinschers.com/st...4&cat=0&page=3 .
I've also talked to the owner of this website, nice guy. The tires don't come installed, however for that low of a cost, installation is a detail in my book. They serve up Qc and Ont, so Toronto should be possible. Shipping is free.

Yeah, I've called them, their website prices are great, the real ones, not so...
Basically all the tires listed on their website are about 20$ more then indicated. He was trying to sell me some Goddyear Eagle Ls at 100$ each as this was "his best deal". For example, the General Altimax were listed at 89, I think, he was actually selling at 118. I politely said I would call back!!!

Thanks OP. I just mailed in the $50 coupon for the Goodyear Tripletred tires. My sister just bought some Kumho's that has a $40 rebate (she bought them from Tire Rack (US) so I dunno if she'll qualify).

I called him up and he said that he will call me back. It sounds kinda sketch. He told me that he doesn't think he has the sizes I need. Basically, it seems like he going around the province to find deals for tires and then resells them. The only drawback with that is that he doesn't really have a consistent inventory of tires. it's too bad that the prices aren't sold as listed on website.

I know. Too bad the price guarantee law doesn't apply. Lol, imagine getting the tire at the listed price + 10$ off

I ordered 4 tires from tiretrends.com on Tuesday afternoon and they were at my door in Winnipeg on Friday.
Shipping was $11 per tire. Great deal as I didn't have to pay PST or the provincial tire levy.
They even included a copy of the mail in rebate form. Thanks OP.

Not sure which year your Jetta is but I just bought a set of Altimax HP's for my car - not a Jetta - (went up from 185-60-15" stock tires to 215-40-17) and I gotta say the handling/traction is great! (it was expected but feels great when it's confirmed!
haven't tried them in wet conditions yet though ) The ride isn't too stiff either even though they're low profiles (the Altimax HP's in this size are not XL rated unlike the General Exclaim UHPs so that probably helps - my car's lighter so I didn't need an XL rated tire). The Altimax's also have a higher treadwear rating than the General Exclaim UHPs (440 vs. 340)
Road noise is pretty low too - the Altimax RT's are omnidirectional whereas the HP's have a directional tread pattern but are very similar. There's also anecdotal testimony of better fuel economy with the Altimax's (not sure if this is due to the tire compound or the weight of the tire).
I bought mine through Active Green and Ross (they ordered them in for me - 3 days) and they include 2yr 24-hr road assistance (if I get a flat, they'll send someone to change the tire - don't really need this but nice to have if my wife is driving on her own) and rotations. Installed/balanced price was about ~$141/tire including taxes and after factoring in the $50 rebate from General Tire.
Note: Active Green and Ross has some great pricing on other tires like Michelins and BF Goodrich where they're giving $50 off the price for 4 which can then be combined with the Manufacturer's mail-in rebate (I couldn't get my tire size in the more affordable brands though so no extra $50 for me
).

Anyone know if you must buy a set of 4 Michelins at Costco to get any rebate. I know a few years ago I bought a pair and they gave me $15 dollars each. Do they still allow this.

I'm clueless on what tires to get. I need 215/40/17 for new rims but I never purchased tires before. I have winter set so should I look at summer tires or all season tires for Ontario weather ? Also what would u recommend for tire ? $100-150 would b ideal per tire, don't want to break the bank here
can u recommend something to me and maybe lemme know of a good shop in GTA area ?

It all depends on the car you have and the type of driver you are.
What is the weight and speed rating required for your car? Mine is 89 and H.
Are you going full throttle or close to the limits?
I would recommend simply reading reviews on tirerack ( http://www.tirerack.com/tires/review...surveyComments
)

Thanks OP, good all encompassing post!
Here's my dilemma. I'm looking for either Goodyear Assurance ComfoTred or Kumho Solus KR21 in 235/60R17, and trying to get some pricing availability info. Places like Costco (don't carry Goodyear and won't special order them), Canadian Tire & Walmart (carry Goodyear but won't special order them), Active Green & Ross and more just don't carry them. O.K. Tire says they're waiting on a shipment that'll take 6 weeks. I phoned Goodyear corporate and they say they are in stock now. They also gave me Gordon's as a company, I would just like a few others to compare. I'm in Montreal.
Any ideas?
