Is it true that the building is a converted prison? I could certainly believe that, given it's appearance from a distance.

Unfortunately it lacks such a glorious past (although we did host the most notorius Canadian serial rapist). In fact "Scarborough College" as it was known was designed in the 60's by a famous Canadian architect John Andrews who seemed in love with concrete. He also designed the CN tower. On the other hand the >2 feet thick steel-renforced concrete walls probably make it the most nuclear resistant campus in the world :P I can't imagine anything getting to you in the "dungeons" (basement level) even if the world did end!

Another Co-op Management - 3rd year

Tuition bites but co-op will pay most of it off, and will likely be ahead of other kids with no work experience equalling higher start off pay.

Maybe it's all of us deal finders/sellers that have the business management thinking. Go UTSC Mgmt! Go me, the one white guy in all of my classes! haha!

Depends which stream....

Accounting -> Asian
Finance -> Asian
Marketing -> Half Asian (maybe less)
Strategic Mgmt -> Some Asian
HR -> Don't know
Int'l Business -> Half?
Public Management -> Few
Economic Data Analysis -> I didn't even know it existed

But yeah, and I bet close to 75% percent of the MGT people all belong to accounting, finance or marketing, so yeah, pretty dominated by asian in general.

You're a tool if you feel that way; the H/S wings may be concrete, but I think that the addition of all the recent buildings more than compensate for it.

And using the old high school line is kind of losing its' relevance, if you took a look at the tracking of the populations over the years its' increasing at quite a rate, the place is bigger than it used to be back when that was a valid putdown.

UTSC > UTSG.

(Though I suppose I'm biased since I'm in Co-op MGT)

I'm in first year and was wondering how hard it is to keep myself in the coop program.

Most coop placement will ask for your transcript. Big 4 accounting firm are generally very anal about GPA. They only interview people with high GPA. Other jobs, not so important, but nice to have.

First year is just like high school, good chance to boost your GPA. 2nd year is alright, a bit tougher, a bit more work, should be alright for your GPA. 3rd yr, your GPA isn't going to change much, as long as you don't fail, you won't fall below the min req for coop. 4th year, again, your GPA won't change.

1st Course:
Intro to Mgt: Bird Course
Intro to Econ: As long as you can do math and understand the prof, pretty easy
Intro to CS: ******** course, you learn about the HISTORY of computers, some have trouble programming with VB.
Intro to Calculus (Optimization): 70% review, the only new thing you learn is multi variable optimization.
Electives: Depends what you take

Not sure how it is now, but when I took it, 1st year was pretty much a breeze. (It's been 4 years since my 1st yr)

The school was EMPTY during my first year. My last semester, I can barely get by in the hallway.

One word of advice to new students, don't stand in the middle of the hallway to talk to yours friends, it's annoying as hell!

are you kidding. utsg is by far the best of ALL Canadian universities. UTSC is one of the worst. the new buildings have absolutely NOTHING OF VALUE. the student centre is complete ass as its 95% a giant friggen food court. even the campus pub is a JOKE. what campus pub looses its liquor license because 40s of alcohol go 'missing'?

the a and a building is ass as well. its just class rooms. so what, no service. the only thing its an improvement on is its lecture hall that replaced the drafty pavilion; although it offers some substandard (in comparison to any other university) art facilities, which substandard is considered good compared to other utsc facilities.

the management building is the only good thing at utsc and its only good for management students. management is THE ONLY good thing at utsc other than living in foley hall (and i mean that solely on comfort as again, res life is ass as there is nothing going on, no parties, no fun, just the stupid res council doing stupid events by themselves that no one shows up to because SRC is an exclusive clique full of immature people). anyways, the management building is just class rooms anyways so there isnt really much of any other service provided there either.

as for the new science building thats still a few years off and is 10 years over due. at utsc the labs are a joke. I went to a poor highschool in a small city and our labs were better equipped. U of Ottawa has like equipment and space for every student; at UTSC you work in teams of what 4 or 5 people. Please UTSC is ASS in all respects as a university. anyone going to UTSC isnt going to U of T, you are going to clown college (including myself).
