Long range predictions are rarely accurate...

Rain expected mid-week, snow on the way
Rain is on the way towards the middle of the week and a high impact storm arrives Friday. Adam Stiles has your seven day forecast.

This winter is brutal in the GTA. Shovelling the snow today was so difficult, it was extremely heavy. Officially over it.

And this storm that is coming Fri night into Sat is probably going to be huge since no one is making a big deal about it in the media. Usually when they make a big fuss nothing happens, and when they make no fuss, it ends up being a huge storm.

I'm prepared to shovel 20-30cm on Sat mixed in with ice pellets and freezing rain. Lovely.

We've probably had like 45-47cm of snow at Pearson including today's snowfall + another 20 or more Saturday will being it close to 70cm. We usually get only 120cm max the whole season. I want to move to New Zealand now.

Warming trend continues but back to cold on Friday night
CityNews weather specialist Frank Ferragine takes a look at our current and future forecasts, including the "dirty snow" many of us are seeing on the ground and what it means.

Ok so NOW here it goes. The warming is happening. Nothing like the extended cold we just saw will happen again for a while. Expect cold to be limited. Lots of above freezing conditions to melt some snow. Exactly how warm it gets is still unclear But under the GFS's scenario, it is overall not cold. CFS scenario, it is smoking hot! lol

ps, to Brett Anderson, I flip you the finger for slacking on the ECMWF outlooks. You have a duty to keep us up to date on these, but you are failing us!

Smoking Hot indeed
(At least for January... and most definitely compared to the recent Deep Freeze)

The GTA is going to get more days Above Zero than here in Eastern Ontario
But overall it looks like we will be warmer

Thursday = +7
Friday = +6

Combined with the rain, a good chance a lot of my 2+ Feet of snow in my yard is going bye-bye

Yeah and that snowstorm I said yesterday is sure to dramatically change .... it did....
Does not look so much like a behemoth anymore! If we don't get it anymore (as the latest GFS now shows) then the snow will continue to deplete in the warmth rather than replenish. And it is the warmth over the longer term that these models show, that can really melt the snow down. If it holds true. Beyond 2 weeks on the CFS model looks warm enough to nearly wipe out the snow altogether! Because it comes with lots of rain. So that is sure to really eat back the snowpack.

That warm winter I told you people about, it was late, but it looks like it might be happening after all! At least we got this white Christmas!

This warmth showed up literally just a couple days after I took down my warm winter forecast.

I've noticed that when idontlovejaneandfinchanymore was on sabbatical and not a peep from him, weather was doing great! We had snow that gave us a beautiful white Christmas, low temps that froze ponds that allow us to skate and light snow that made it effortlessly to shovel. But now that idontlovejaneandfinchanymore is back, the weather sucs!
A life spent making mistakes is not only more memorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.

As someone that despises summer and especially despises summers filled with overwhelming levels of pests, you can bugger off! I also hate brutal cold but at least brutal cold kills off pests. We need it around a bit longer.
