Also word is that MS is cutting its developer royalty fees drastically if not to zero for the next gen in order to entice more devs so they are definitely going to price the system accordingly to make back some of those lost revenues. Also giving away over 9000 XBOX 360's (rumoured pepsi promotion) wont be cheap. They are definitely going to go with premium pricing and then will drop the price to a more reasonable amount when the other systems launch... its definitely an exciting time for a gamer thats for sure.
9K Xboxes * $300 (ballpark cost to build one of these suckers) = 270K.
Bill spends more on soap per year than this would cost him. He's got more money than Jesus. Microsoft has gained critical mass, IMHO, and when they set their mind to something, there's no stopping them. XBox2 will be the de facto gaming platform eventually. PS2/3 won't stand a chance.

"Goldman Sachs said it confirmed with Microsoft (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people that the company is unlikely to discontinue production of the Xbox videogame console with the launch of Xbox 2."
"The research firm, which rates Microsoft at "outperform," expects Xbox 2 to be available for retail sale in October or November at a retail price of about $249 to $299. Goldman said the Xbox console would cater to the lower-end of the consumer segment."

For the curious, the screen is that of a Ferrari Modena 360. Notice the significance of this car and why Microsoft chose it specifically.

I think by shipping it first doesn't mean able to win the battle in console world.
MS lose a lot of money on X-Box, mainly due to the lack of sales in Japan/Europe. (relatively speaking when comparing to PS2)
What MS doesn't understand is that what exactly the gamer community wants.
I, as a gamer, really don't care a LOT about graphics although it's nice to see some hi-def., Final Fantasy Movie's quality 3D actions in game, but it's not something I'd be aiming for a game.
It all comes down to the game play-ability or how much I can enjoy in the game. I still remember the old days when I spent 18hrs straight when I first got PS1 with FF7. The game was awesome.
I purchased my X-Box not until the very late of its production(my console was modded with X3 just to give u an idea) not because of its games titles either, I just wanted to have a DIVX player in my room and can't justify to get another HTPC.
Most games on XBOX are designed by and for NAmericans, which honestly, don't fit all the gamers out there. And XBox-Only games aren't too interesting either.(DOA Volley?! come on) I personally find PS2 and GC with better exclusive game tittles (GTx/FF serie for PS2, Mario/Resident Evil serie for GC)
MS should really try to find some dev. in JP/EU market for them, otherwise they won't stand a chance against the Sony empire in console gaming.

Tottally, agree with you on that.
It will just give them a head start in the console wars...most likely the one to release next will see what the first company has (whats good, whats bad, whats needed) and then they can capitalize off that.

If that is in-game graphics then I might have to kill myself.

Graphics don't make the game. Gameplay does. (Ninja Gaiden still pains me to this day...worst camera ever).

From an article at Eurogamer
British sources have confirmed that the next generation Xbox is indeed called Xbox 360, that the logo is a simple, round nexus, and that the console itself has a concave design. And it's white. Maybe.

Many rumours have been circulating in the past months regarding Microsoft's next generation system, but let us now lay them all the rest. The name of Xbox's successor is Xbox 360, we can confirm, and the design of the machine is indeed a concave shape.
Speaking under conditions of strict anonymity, a British source privy to Microsoft's marketing documents has today confirmed the machine's name and previously rumoured details of the actual design.
The machine can stand upright and hollows in at the middle, like it's "sucking in its cheeks," our source told us today. Previous rumours had put the console as silver, although fresh information says the final design may be white. It's impossible to tell from the documents, the source went on to say.
According to the source, the rumoured slot for the hard drive - which was apparently at the top of the machine - is not obvious on the document, and the person was unable to clarify where the slot for discs actually appeared.
The logo is described as a simple, round nexus with "Xbox 360" written inside it. Previous rumours had simply the numbers "360" in the disc.
Microsoft will show the console for the first time in a half-hour special on MTV on May 12, a week ahead of E3. The company's press conference, on Monday, May 16, will be the first viewing of the console to the trade en bloc.
Xbox 360 is expected to receive a global release in late 2005.
When contacted today, Microsoft simply said that it does not comment on rumours and speculation relating to next generation product.

heh...i guess everyone has different things that bug them.....i personally didn't find the camera to be THAT much of a b*tch... the first hour or two it was weird cause the camera was shifting...but once you use the right trigger to "reset" it, it becoems like a reflex, and i was able to play the entire game without that being an issue...
besides, normally the pros outweight the cons for me, and even if the camera was a huge issue, i think everything that game has to offer more than enough makes up for it...
i can't wait to see what team Ninja puts together for the xbox 360...but i believe they said that a Dead or alive 4 will come out before any sequel to ninja gaiden is done...
will xbox 360 be compatible with regular xbox games? can't go research it at the moment...im at work...i think someone mentioned it wont be though...but that would really suck if it cant
i can't picture a white xbox either...
my sister's b/f's older brother is working on the new xbox at microsoft in california....i really should be asking him about specifics =S....lol i never bothered to even ask....i dont think he'd tell me either way though....as microsoft would probably kill him

uhh i dont think so
ps2 is beating the xbox by a land slide (in overall sales) and there are alot more developers for the ps2
Many Japanese developeres are still only making games for ps2 because of the extremlly poor sales of xbox in japan
For many gamers, americanized games (WWE, american foobtball) are not something they will play

You're right Swizz....
I guess in many ways Ninja Gaiden was about me vs. the camera. I NEVER got killed on screen, it was always from some off-screen projectile. That pink demon woman flying boss thingy in the temple, holy crap she comes at you from off-screen!! I just figured that two full years after the masterpiece Devil May Cry that Ninja Gaiden had no excuse to have such a crappy camera. To each their own though.
It's the same reason I can't stand the grand theft auto series - off screen bullets and horrid controls.

Yeah, but who isn't a fan of eye candy? And better graphics provide you to become more immersed in the game. I will always be excited to see better graphics.
