Recently ran across an RFDer who hits the Thanks button of every post they read because it makes them feel good to do so.
Cool or not cool?

How do you know they do it because they feel good?

PM'd them about it and they replied:
I just noticed that receiving a "Thanks" made me happy. So I assumed it was the same for others. I thought that if an action as simple could spread happiness, why not do much. So I started sending a "thanks" to people I passed on Redflagdeal. Sorry if that bothers you.
They hit the Thanks button over 300 times today alone!_______________

Losers/trolls waste time posting this "I don't feel like wasting time researching nonsense and trying to disprove the collective theories of a group of people that do not have, or deserve, even the tiniest shred of credibility. I'd rather amuse myself."

I like the intention (if that really is it): Happy is happy. But I can see where it may cheapen the significance of the button for some.
Or he/she is trying to start some sort of issue?
In general is seems inappropriate - unless it involves my button, then i am ok with it.
I had noticed someone else commenting on this. Button priviledges revoked until further notice would be my vote.Last edited by ishfish; Jul 22nd, 2012 at 07:41 PM.

I agree with Ishfish in that over-use of the Thanks button will cheapen it's meaning, but then again there are plenty of people who should probably be using it, but never do.
So I suppose in the big scheme of things it balances out.
I'm sure he/she will get tired of it sooner or later.

Why care? The "thanks" button doesn't really have a meaning. Do you post things because you think you'll get thanked?

What's wrong with wanting to be appreciated? I mean in real life, aren't you more likely to help a buddy move who's going to buy pizza and beer, versus one who will have forgotten about it as soon as you help shift that last box? Yeah it's just a button click, but it's the closest thing we have on the Internet. Unless one of you guys wants to pay for an RFD pizza and beer outing, which is cool too.
I think thanks are a good thing. It's an indicator that you were helpful. I'm a helpful dude and if I spent a lot of time trying to answer someone's question, or help find a good deal, and no one says anything and I don't get any thanks, well - I'd probably figure that what I said wasn't helpful so next time I might leave it alone. So yeah, if I don't think anyone's going to be helped by my answer, I'm not going to spend time writing one. I don't care whether or not how "thanked" you are is visible to the public, it's not a race to some kind of thanks prize. To me, it's just an internal thing, someone appreciating something I did, letting me know that they found it helpful, which encourages me to do more. Nothing wrong with that, is there?

Caring whether people are thanking too often is about as pathetic as the people begging for thanks.

He's bumping up my thanks count so I'm all for it! Really no harm at all
