OneZone - Downtown Toronto Thoughts?
Hi,
Just wanted to get any opinions for people that use the OneZone paid wifi in downtown Toronto and your review or thoughts of the service in terms of availability, reliability, and speed?
http://www.onezone.ca/
I will need to use it for off-on work related items.

The coverage BLOWS. It absolutely BLOWS. You are better off depending on free wifi in coffee shops, especially since most McDonalds and Tim Hortons and Starbucks have it.
Don't bother. See if you can get one of those Rogers sticks or something instead or depend on free wifi. Personally I tether my phone when I need internet, but I have a 6GB data plan and an Android phone so it's easy.

Does thethering require a hard-ware install of some kind? Or even the USB sticks? If thats the case I need to get my company to approve as BIT9 won't allow unapproved hardware lol...
Hopefully those sticks are just plug and play.

Most android phones should be able to do it out of the box with no modding/hacking. It's just a setting in options. I'm not sure about other phones (iPhones won't do it, and I don't think BB's will either).
I don't think you have to do anything with the sticks, but I'd take your laptop or whatever to the store and make sure.
e: I might be wrong about Blackberries, but I don't know if your work has it locked down.

Yep Blackberries work straight out of the box but you need the Blackberry Desktop Manager. I used Tetherbridge which was a paid app and worked perfectly for me.

Mobile HotSpot
Mobile HotSpot is available on iPhones and BlackBerries running 7.1
You can tether wirelessly with almost any smartphone.
If you have a BlackBerry, you can also use Desktop Manager and a USB cable.

Nooob question.
Lets assume I use Moblicity and that new BB Curve has OS7+ and I have their unlimited data plan.
Does that mean I can use the Mobile HotSpot without installing anything on the computer?
Thanks!

Go to the Wi-fi Alliance website and check the listings there.

pdanet on ios, android and blackberry all work well with usb cable and bluetooth. it's works well too but there is a one time charge fee.
i recommend you if you plan on wifi hotspotting your device, you should leave it powered by wall charger or car charger as this will drain the battery FAST.
out of all of the platforms you want tethering apps that are undetectable by the carrier especially if your on unlimited plans or they will detect the tether and throttle away.
the only free one i know and works best and require to jailbreak, root or os tinkering is the clockworkmod tether on android https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...a.tether&hl=en
there may be others on bb and ios but they most likely will cost you something such as tetherberry. and yes carriers are cracking down on non paying customers that tether with detectable tether apps unless you have the data share or data tether add on in your monthly plans.
personally if you have a cheap unlimited plan from the likes of mobi or wind and have data tether on your plan. just get a unlocked usb modem stick. it's the simplest and easier way unless you have multiple devices that need to share the connection. then i would recommend a 3g router + usb modem stick. such as the mofi router and an unlocked tmo usb modem stick here...
usb modem stick = http://dummybuy.com/index.php?main_p...products_id=36
wifi 3g router = http://dummybuy.com/index.php?main_p...&products_id=1
i've seen some pretty cool war driving mods with this setup. this combo is proven.
