Online Personal Trainer????
I keep getting spam for this type of service (mostly from Men's Health) and I don't see how this can worth the money. Most people don't know their own body well enough to give an accurate assement of their physical state. How can a trainer act like a personal trainer over the internet? S/He can't correct your form, encourage you to do one more rep etc. Has anybody tried this? I'd be interested to hear thoughts on it.

This is slowly becoming a trend for alot of health professionals.
In some smaller towns and cities that lack a "good" gym, physio, rheumatologist, the internet is the way to communicate with bigger cities with the proper resources.
It is DEFINATELY not meant to be a hands on let me see you and i will correct your form, but more of a medium to get and receive education and some starter points for self maintenance and injury avoidance.
I know some physios have web comferences and web meetings with clients for follow-ups and exercise progressions. There are some that claim to do assessments, treatments and billing online...i don't know the specifics.
But, with a web cam and audio, I can see how you can do alot these days through the internet.

It definately wouldn't be as good as one on one, but more than half the of job of a personal trainer is education, and this could easily be done through teleconference.

Yeah, I'm sure the ones I get spammed for don't offer a service like that. It's probably just fill in some forms with height/weight/activity level/goals and they send you a diet/excercise routine.....BUT....at least now I see how it *could* be possible
