Optimizing Windows for Winter
My window on bed room side is letting cold air in. The "cushioning" piece (where it closes) is fairly old and pretty worn out. Is there anything I can do? I don't have the funds for total windows replacement and I don't want to duct tape the whole window as I need the sunlight.

Just roll up some paper towl or toilet paper into a thin roll and push it into the crack under the window with a slot blade screw driver or the back side of a knife.
In addition you can buy heat shrink clear plastic window kits at hardware stores, Candian Tire etc. Even the Dallarams sells a smaller kit.

For the past few years have been using the window kits, @ 1st on walls, then damaged paint when removed, then on frames only paint doesn't remove when removing. BUt noticed that the air is now presurized to weakest points when windy could feel around frame to drywall. Solution caulked this area.
So for about $3/4 per window I am saving air leaks and cold/heat in.

Sounds like you need to caulk around the windows.
The plastic-sheet window kits mentioned here work well to insulate the glass, but FYI, you can also use bubble wrap: http://www.builditsolar.com/Projects...bubblewrap.htm It's easy to put up and take down.

I'd concentrate on 2/3 things:
Replace the weather stripping, if not available/something you want to put off until warmer weather and don't need to open it, then seal it up with some removable caulk. Once that is done use a window film kit to seal the rest of the small leaks you missed._______________
Boycott the Canadian Tire located at 403 & Dundas for it's clueless automotive department, poor service and lack of commonly stocked items.
