Orthodontist GTA

Niece needs braces so searching for a good orthodontist.

Not a dentist that does invisalign but true specialist in braces and spacers.

Prefer in Mississauga area or willing to expand search to southern Brampton if good doctor there.

Not sure if ratemds reviews are real or more like homestars so prefer to read RFD's folks experiences.

Thanks.

The only reviews in any quantity I found are on google reviews and ratemds so looking for someone with actual experience to corroborate.

Go do the free consultation with a few who are in a convenient location and go from there. Treatment plans can differ as can pricing and payment arrangements. Convenient location is paramount as visits can be every 4-6 weeks or more often. General wire change appts all tend to happen immediately after school hrs and general office hrs are reserved for major appt's like putting on or taking off. You're not going to want to commute long distances over a couple of years...

Thanks folks.

Will suggest to try the local orthodontists. Do know of a good orthodontist but out of town so travel involved.

Could you please update if did one phase or two phase treatments and time length. I will be taking to some appointments so wanted to get an idea.

Also, cost? All treatments are different however wanted to see if niece gets quotes that are in the similar ballpark.

Thanks.

Perhaps someone that had more recent treatment will answer your questions. I had my braces with Village Centre in Mississauga over 25 years ago - they have been around quite a while!

I was in the midst of correcting my teeth but moved to Toronto for University. They were able to remove my old braces and replace them with theirs. The charge for mine was about $3000 (or $4000, can't remember) and took about a year and a half, close to two years. Go in about every month or two to get it tightened or realigned. After removing the braces got retainers to wear at night; they will instruct you how often to wear them. I'm really pleased with my results and I also have permanent retainers on my top and bottom teeth so they should be aligned for life now. They're also very good letting you go in (at any location) to get things touched up if required.

My daughter had 2 phases of treatment that cost just under $10k, started with arch expanders to head gear and right through to braces... We started at age 7 and finished at almost 17

Just got update from niece.

On Sat she went for one the free consults and they suggested treatment of head gear for 1/2 year and then about 2 years of braces. Cost for treatment including retainer about $6,500 plus tax.

Presume these are the basic braces [will need to confirm with niece].

Are there any differences to going with the higher priced braces other than esthetics? Do the basic braces correct just as well?

Any thing suggest to get additional or for lack of better words "upgrade"?

Thanks.

How old is she? I assume younger as they are talking headgear. That is generally only done before or during puberty while bone is growing. The "basic" braces would be the metal brackets on the teeth. "Upgraded" would be the white brackets in most offices. Both still get the same wire on them. Colored ties on the brackets are pretty standard in every office now which is why you usually see kids with the crazy ties that can be changed each wire change.

I've heard that Dr. Bruce Freedman around Yorkville area is good. I was wondering if anyone has ballpark figures for how much it could be?

12 yo.

Has overbite/underbite? Forget which one. Also has 2-3 baby teeth still.

Initially headgear with about 4 braces to correct front teeth that protrude alot then 6 months later full braces with permanent wire on bottom row and retainer on top.

Told going headgear first reduces chance of extracting adult teeth and betters chin profile[?].

Sounds pretty standard to me. The headgear is used to slow bone growth, so in her case to slow the growth of the upper jaw to reduce the overbite/overjet. And yes, if they can slow the growth of the upper jaw to get it match the lower jaw it will reduce the chance of loosing adult teeth.... All in all, the plan sounds reasonable to me as we dealt with an extreme overjet among other issues.

What do you think of cost?

Cost for treatment including retainer about $6,500 plus tax.

Same price whether do 6 months headgear and then about 2 years braces or just 2 years braces right away with no headgear.

Thanks.

I think the cost sounds definitely in the right range due to our experience. As I said, we paid almost $10k for 2 phases of treatment. You might want to do some reading about different orthodontic treatments. Headgear is all about directing bone growth for better long term results. To either accelerate or slow the jaw for proper tooth placement and matching upper to lower jaw. Our experience is that if headgear is needed then braces alone aren't going to result in a satisfactory end smile...

Gonna suggest to get headgear first [with few braces on top teeth] for 6 months then full braces for 2 years.

Treatment is headgear at night only while sleeping... gonna be somewhat difficult at first.

Any tips on sleeping with headgear?
