Hi, i just received my osap funding quote and i'm only going to get $4600, even though my dad has been out of work for 1 yr, i dont have any resp or income of my own and my moms income is only 50000, with 2 dependants both in university. With this info, shouldnt i have received more, if not the full $11,900 because i definitely cant pay 14000 tuition with 4600. Does anyone have any advice...should i call into the osap ppl and ask them why i am receiving so little?
Thanks
JIV

It is said that the reason why leaves fall from the branch, is to allow new leaves to take their place. No matter how sad the fallen leaves look, there will always be new sprouts in the spring. Perhaps emptiness in the heart is something like that.

So I tried to fill out the estimator form... (how accurate is it?) and it gives me $0. I'm not surprised, but it's not that my FAMILY doesn't have money, but I really want to pay things off on my own and be responsible for part of my tuition/housing/etc.
Quick info about me:
-Going into second year at UWO, living in student residence
-Three dependent children in my family, two (including me) are in University
-Going to make a little more than $10,000 this summer on my own
-Parents are still married
-Household income is a little less than $250k
-Have RESP, but don't know how much is in there
So what about special cases where the FAMILY has money, but the parents are forcing the child to pay for their own things? Although that's not exactly my case and my parents don't care and don't mind to pay for me... I really want to pay the majority of things off myself, and even with $10k this summer, I know it's not enough.

thats not a special case and it doesn't really matter what you want, osaps based on financial need and according to them, you don't need it even if your parents don't pitch in
suggest you let them pay for whatever you are short and them just pay them back. no need to take money away from someone who may genuinely need it._______________

Well firstly i live just over 100km from the university and i wasn't able to find a job to help pay for school. Whats even stranger is that i received approx $2000 more last year, and at that time my dad had a job and there were still 2 of us in university at the same time. Could it be since my brother hasnt applied for osap yet that it could affect the amount i receive. I'll double check my application to see if i made any mistakes, but i dont think i have since this is the third year i have applied.
Thanks
JIV

How does one get notified if they receive the OSOG or even check the status of it on the website(don't see anything other than income checking will occur in the fall)? Do we get a letter?

Would you be willing to pay $58 more for an iPod produced in North America?
My Answer: NO. I get the same Ipod with the same functionality...where is the the benefit to me? As, I've said before, I will get more out of my $58 dollars by lighting it on fire, because it will produce heat. If I wipe my a$$ with that $58 dollars, I will need to buy less toilet paper. IF I buy the made in North America Ipod for $58 more, I get absolutely nothing more out of it.

I just got my funding summar from OSAP (I am going in first year university, an independent student):
Loans - $11550
Canada Student Grants (Middle-Income) - $768
Total - $12318
Here is the problem, my tuition alone will be around $11000 to $12000, plus residence and meal plan it will be around $20000 first year, I have around $2000 saved up, but it is definitely not enough to cover all expenses (not even including living expenses), what can I do? Right now the column for the Ontario Access Grants is empty, so does that mean I won't be getting any?
I made around $31000 last year, which puts me in the middle income family bracket I guess, but here is the problem. I am in a common-law relationship according to the CRA (12 months of consecutive cohabitation), but not according to OSAP (3 years), and unfortunately last year my common-law partner did not have any income, and I have to pay for his expenses as well, how and when do I let OSAP know that and have them re-evaluate my grant?
I know this is a long post, but please help me with this, I really don't know what to do, I am about $7000 short...

I hope you don't mind if I probe for further information.
Then why do they give a higher maximum loan to people who are married or in common-law relationships ($11900 vs. $18530)?
Yes, I made 31k last year, but I also only made 25k the year before, and 15k the year before that, and I used the extra money to pay back debts.
I don't understand, because my university is 2 hours away from where I live right now?
I know I am already getting the maximum loan, I am inquiring about the grants.Last edited by SherryBerry; Jun 30th, 2009 at 11:30 AM.
