Hi,
I'm registered in as 60% course load for osap.
and i am considering dropping a class my first semester.
so i will go from 60 to 50% in course load which brings me to a part time student.
how much will osap give me if i do drop the class? (from jan. to apr.)

Hi everyone,
I am on OSAP, and I'm currently finishing my final year of undergrad at UofT. My degree is in Russian language and literature, and I want to become a translator. I never had an opportunity to study abroad, but it's commonly understood that to be a translator you must live in the country where that language is spoken for a fair bit of time.
Because of this, I am hoping to do one year studying Russian at Irkutsk State Linguistic University, starting next September. Prices for education are much lower there, but this is still a very good institution. My question is, would OSAP allow me to put off my loans while I study abroad, even if I've already graduated? Would they ever consider continuing to fund me for that year, or would I need to find another way to support myself? What if I am not studying in a particular program at the university in Russia (ie. not going for a degree), but simply taking intensive language courses to help me achieve my career goal?
Thanks to anyone who can give me some insight on this, and/or can tell me where I would go for more information from OSAP itself!

I got denied OSAP for my 5th year even though I graduated. Do I redo the application? I am going to call them tomorrow to find out why specifically my application was canceled/closed. Do they usually give OSAP to 5th year non-degree students?

No, bc the uni in Russia is not an eligible school (there's a list of those schools on the OSAP website
Would they ever consider continuing to fund me for that year, or would I need to find another way to support myself?
No, they won't. First of all, it's in Russia.

Most definitely not.

osap-please help
Hi there,
I am on osap for the 2nd year, last year went smoothly.
This year I got almost half of the amount on sep. (loan + grant) but I right now my osap is on hold when I check online, and I must provide additional documents to support my osap application.
They stated: Check List:
1. Things to do:
Student must provide supporting documents
You have been placed on academic probation for OSAP purposes. Because you have not maintained satisfactory academic progress, you must provide a letter of explanation outlining your situation including the reason(s) you have not progressed........
2. Things to review
Income verification
Student's income-to be determined
Parent 1's income + Parent 2's income
For item 1 i am not very clear why i am under probation but i guess i have 2 reasons that they may consider I changed my program from one to other and I failed in one course 0.5 credit in the summer (49/100)?
What do you thing guys? Which one of those is the reason?
And any suggestions to the letter that i have provide?
For item 2 I totally don’t understand? What should I do? Shall i apply for income tax (actually i reported my income during 2008 & 2009 only $1000 each year) and it is true from baby-sitting.
But i turned 19 on March 2010 and did not apply to the income tax do they need us to apply??
Or this is normal procedure.

ok so im just really confused about this whole personal income issue.
so from january 2010 to may 2010, i made 1500
and from may to sep 2010, i made 1000
and from september 2010 to now i made roughly around 1500.
I was looking forward to working during christmas because thats when i make ALOT of money (lots of hours plus overtime and holiday pay) but i know how you can only make 103/week during study term. so do they look at your jan-may 2010 and sep-dec 2010 income or from sep 2010-april 2011 income (referring to the study term)? because from jan 2010 to now, i already made over 3500 and i really dont want to lose any money and i already got my loan installment so my next term, it'd be all grant and i dont want to be losing any grant (its free money)....
i guess im just really confused with all the "how much you can make." so technically, if you count only the "studying term" did i only make 3000 so i can still make 500 before i quit? is that what it is....?????? or do i also have to take into consideration of how much ill be making in second semester (jan 2011-april 2011) or would that just count towards next year OSAP application ???????????LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked patricia257 for this post.

Buying a car while studying
Hi everyone,
I'm in the final year of my studies. I applied for OSAP last time in Sep 2010 and I got $12,000 (I'm married with 2 kids). At the time of application we had only 1 car (older car which is worth about $6000) and we listed the car as an asset.
Here is my question:
If we buy another car before I graduate (April 2011), is there a chance that they will count our 2-nd car as an asset and recalculate my OSAP funding???
Thank you!LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked lav99 for this post.

I don't believe so. I believe when they calculated your funding amount for Sept 2010 to April 2011 academic year, it was based on expected income/assets for the 2010 Calendar year.
Should you require further OSAP assistance coming Fall 2011, then this 2nd car asset may come into play.

This is a short story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about this, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I remember reading about some amount of salary (at whatever time interval) and you are still eligible for interest relief programs in OSAP. How much is that amount? is it less than 14000/year?

Not getting enough money
So Im starting school this June at TriOS college because I live in Oshawa and there is no jobs. So why not go back to school and educate myself in a new field that is in demand. I chose triOS because it started the soonest and has a great reputation here in Oshawa. So my question is, Im getting $9300 from OSAP, my course is $6000. This leaving me with $3,300 for 6 months. I have to pay rent of $400 a month and $100 for a bus pass. This leaving me with $300 for all my food, school supplies and anything else I need. This isnt nearly enough and I know Im allowed to make $100 extra a week but even still that wouldnt be enough, even if I was able to find a part-time job here. So I want to know is there something I can do? Can I contact OSAP and explain my situation?

Nope, your need is assessed using a complex formula. OSAP is need based, not want based. You're expected to liquidate your assets and have at least $3k in pre-study income saved to pay towards school...
This is a long dead thread that dealt with OSAP before the latest round of changes. The current OSAP thread is actually stickied in this forum. I will now lock this one..._______________
