Hey guys,

I am going to be in Ottawa for a conference from May 22-27 and want to go on vacation from there ... any suggestions on cheap vacations from Ottawa or would it be worth it to get to Toronto to start my vacation? Suggestions would be welcome. Thanks

Cheap vacation and Toronto don't mix. If you want to do Toronto, then it's going to cost you.

If you are looking for stuff to do, why not just stay in Ottawa? There is plenty to do there and much more affordable than Toronto. You could go to Montreal for a day trip or 2 as well.

If so, where and what are you looking at doing? There are loads of options depending on your preferences. One option would be to catch the train (or rent a car) and head to Montreal.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I am looking for a sun vacation ... Montreal would be a second choice if costs are too high to get to a sun destination. From my initial searches, it looks like trips to the Bahamas and Mexico are about $300-500 cheaper from TO but maybe someone from the Ottawa area has more insight?

We were also considering a cruise but what would be the cheapest place to get to in terms of a port city? NYC? Miami? What other ports would be worth looking into?

Anyway, are you looking for an all inclusive vacation? If so, the cheapest place out there is usually Dominican and it's usually cheaper to fly out of Toronto. Cuba and some parts of Mexico are pretty cheap as well at times.
