Is it just me or are police officers in Ottawa alot nicer than the ones in Toronto?

Once it was late at night, I was searching for a gas station (really really low on fuel) in some downtown streets, and there was alot of construction going on.. so it was terribly confusing. Needless to say I ended up on a one-way street facing the wrong way, and there was a police cruiser right there.. he came over and he was like "you know this is a one-way street right?".. and I answered "Yeah but I'm dangerously low on fuel can you tell me where the gas station is?" and he didn't write me a ticket and ended up escorting me there.

Today, my co-workers girlfriend was caught driving with only her G1. They caught her when she turned into a transit-way (lol). Anyways, they gave her a ticket for being on the transit-way, but let her off for driving alone with a G1. The police officer went with her to a nearby mall and my co-worker and I went to go get her. Pretty generous move as the G1-felony has a 30-day suspension along with it too.

hey! I turned into a transit way once, i noticed it when i was about 2 meter into the lane lol it was raining and dark out. Luckily no police were there.

also, how can you get a ticket for going into transit way? I mean sometimes its pretty hard to see the transit way..

I agree. I lived in Ottawa for 10 years and when I first moved there I was totally floored at how polite they were. We saw a guy on a motorcycle acting out some road rage on an old guy, actually punched him in the face, broke his glasses and caused some bleeding. The cops were sooo nice to the guy, calling him sir, being very polite, speaking to him with respect. I'd never seen anything like it in Windsor that's for sure. In the following years I saw a lot more of that, in fact I don't remember ever seeing cops there being power freaks like they are here.

I totally agree. I studied in Ottawa and got warning for blown light bulb adn expired license plate. My friend got warning when turning right at red light without fully stop first. And the cops are much friendlier too.

There will be nothing like that in Toronto. I guess the police in Toronto need more $$.

Ottawa residents are much more polite and respectful, thus cops are easy-going.

It's the capital with many embassy, so the police training and policy probably weight more toward being diplomatic. It is common to see cars over here with red diplomatic license plate.

So far I got one speed ticket while going 70 at a 50 zone. The cop was polite and gave me a small 60 at 50 ticket.

Beat up on an old guy? The very least that someone slimey enough to do that deserves is a very severe ass kicking then a nice big fine.
The only thing that scum like that understands is pain and a loss of money.
I would love to see the cops pull a Rodney King beating on someone like that.
"Ooops, our foot slipped...and the other slipped, and our fists...and a few billy clubs....oh gee...sorry sir"

It's like a road designated for buses only. They're roads commonly used for buses to get from roads to terminals.

police in metro areas have a different mentality compared to police in municipalities or smaller cities.

metro cops have always been nice to me and i use to be part of the street racing days back in my young days.

we never got tickets but got the "get the hell out of here" treatment.

they have better things to do than traffic stops.

it's the ones outside of these cities that you have to worry about, peel and york region has probably the most bored police force and all they do is harrass motorists.

i always take care when driving in these areas as they are trying to find things to do where as in toronto, they are too busy to deal with you.
