Broadway's (i've only been to the kanata one in bridlewood) serves a great breakfast.
La Dolce Vita on Preston St... they have great pasta, as well as a tasty chicken calzone. My gf has celiac and they offer gluten-free pasta, so it's one of our faves.
Surprised no one has mentioned Capone's on Carling... it used to be Alexei Yashin's favourite restaurant when he played here. Amazing italian food... huge portions as well._______________

I believe that Capones is where the Sens go as a team before many of their games.
They have good hashbrowns. If you like hashbrowns, places to avoid are Dunns and Coras (yea I know this place is popular because of their variety of dishes, but for regular breakfast -> eggs, toast, ham/sausage/bacon, it sucks).

Has anyone tried the new Fratelli's place in Barrhaven besides the movie theatre ?
I also heard Lone Star is coming to Barrhaven...I don't know about you guys but to me Lone Star is just another joint, maybe because I have been there one too many times (the ones on Baseline and Kanata) and to me it's more appropriate for business functions, team-building events and whatever have you, as opposed to intimate or cozy dining experience.
But having one here does not hurt, that's for sure.
La Porto A Casa on Fallowfield is excellent but it's hard to get a table and we aren't spending $70/2 person every time we go out to eat.
I would like to see a Thai or Japanese/Korean joint or maybe a French restaurant. It may be hard to set up a restaurant biz in Barrhaven, there is no real corporate office or factory to drive the lunch period, although RCMP is moving into the area soon and that may open up some opportunities. Lots of families live here so they typically stay in for dinners as well...we will have to see how it goes..._______________

Hmm I wouldn't say Lone Star is appropriate for business functions (?) and you're right it certainly isn't an "intimate or cozy dining experience" - but I don't think that's the angle the restaurant is going for. Good for a family outing, or dinner/drinks with friends.
They definitely have the best fajitas in town, and the location at Baseline/Fisher has been consistently good - I've been going there for 10+ years.

Sorry what I mean by business function is Lone Star is always a favorite spot for work parties and what have you. When we go out for dinners (me and my wife) and occasionally with our family or other friends, it doesn't strike me as a place that would rank high on my list...because I have been there so many times and it is a bit harder to hold good conversations in that atmosphere. You always got distracted with one of those birthday songs...not to say they are not good but they may not be the cups of tea for everyone.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Pancho Villa on Elgin ... possibly the best Mexican I've ever had.
I discovered this place while in University and it was great. I liked it so much that when I moved back to Toronto, I would take a few of my friends and go for the drive just foe some Pancho. I've also mentioned it to some friends when they visit Ottawa and they come back with raving reviews.

it's alright but i can't imagine driving from toronto to ottawa for it? there must be something comparable if not better in TO.
what do you get there that's so great? i've only had fajitas a few times which obviously isn't the best measuring stick for a mexican place. i heard their enchiladas w/ mole are pretty good.
nice patio in the summertime though...

Wasabi (near Byward Market) - Excellent Japanese restaurant! They are a bit pricy but its worth it. Its better than 99% of the Japanese restaurants here. I really enjoyed the bento box that contained all seafood (softshell crab, deepfried oysters, salmon teriyaki, sushi).

Because of its location (and the subsequently higher prices), I prefer to go to Taste of Japan in Bells Corners. It is also a favorite restaurant for some of the Sens players.
I would like to see more Japanese restaurants in the West/South end of town. Not the AYCE joints that are run by Chinese. Most of them are located downtown._______________
