A&P Fresh or it's Free Policy.. lol
I hit the A+P at the Bramalea City Centre on May 27 at 10:30 pm. Ended up with a full cart of products, from Humpty Dumpty Cheesies, to a Single Serving (Prepared in store) Ceasar Salad (With real bacon bits), to @-Litre Cartons of 2% milk, Soy Milk, Lactose Free Milk. My biggest score was in the bakery... where I found FRESH cakes with the wrong Expiry date stamped on them (May 01 instead of Jun 01) - they were $10.00 each, so I got 1 of each of the two types of cakes that were there.
In total, I got $75.00 for free!
This is the kicker.... when I went to the customer service desk at about 12:15am (Saturday morning now)... nobody was there. I went to ask a cashier if someone could come over to the customer service desk to help me, and she said that if the staff at the desk had gone home, then it was closed (Even though this is a 24 HOUR LOCATION?!?!). I said, ok, so I guess you will be able to process all of my "Fresh or Free" items, and she said no, and that after 10:00pm (the time customer service people go home) they do not honor "fresh or free". I told her immediately to get the manager, which she did.
He reluctantly walked me over to the counter, all the while talking to me about "oh.. there are a few of ya out here who try to take advantage of a good thing", and "I know my morals wouldn't let me take all of this stuff without paying for it". What a load of crap he was dishing out as he stickered all of my items (About 20 in all). Took about 1 hr 20 min. of shopping to find them.
Well, anyways... only one cashier was open at that time of night. I was nice and let a few people go in front of me, as I was unsure of how long it would take to run my items through. Only one person was behind me when I started scanning items. Well, by the time they had processed all of my items (It took them over 10 minutes), the lineup had stretched to about 15 people (haha!). What a joke! The manager was back and forth and still didn't open up another cash register, even knowing how long it would take them to process my items. I couldn't help it, but I had to laugh at the lineup.. it was quite the scene, and kinda embarassing with all of those pissed off people staring at me wondering what was taking so long. I wonder how many of them actually realized that my entire cart of items was FREE. Anyways... thought I'd share that funny story.

Sobeys in kanata use to have a policy like this but they had to remove it.People would go in and look for items that had expired and do all there shopping for the week and not pay a dime. After 6 months it was getting out of hand and they removed the program.

LOL. How's that for a PR slogan. "We found the program showed too many expired items for sale in our store so we removed the program".

To spend your time looking for expired goods is ridiculous and beyond cheap.

If some guy can find $100 worth of expired food in a grocery store imho that's a problem in and of itself.
Reminds me when a few years ago grocery stores were caught "updating" the expiry date on meat products.

I dunno. I find it rather comical myself. Plus I don't really have the time or effort to keep track of all the lies of corporations so it's good to hear (like with Staples) someone is keeping track of their lies
Besides....this is Red Flag Deals - ummm...I thought we all were here cause we're cheap?

I was there to buy stuff anyways. I don't think it's being cheap. It probably took me 1.5 hours total in dominion. I don't know how much money you guys make an hour, but to be able to walk out iwht $75 of free groceries is definitely a win.
I'm no scamming anyone. I'm just making them honour their policy.

Years ago I used to shop at Knob Hill Farms in the GTA. I used to find tons of stuff that was well beyond the "Best Before Date". On one particular occasion I took a bottle of Kraft Peppercorn Ranch dressing to the store manager that was 6 months out of date. The manager told me to mind my own business.
So, I called Kraft Canada to inquire what their policy is. Lo and behold, Kraft Canada has NO policy concerning retailers selling expired products. As per the customer service rep I spoke to at Kraft, "it is up to the consumer to check dates and be vigilant as to what they are purchasing".
I do realize that the "best before date" is only a guideline ie the product doesn't spoil at midnight on that day. However, I'd prefer to purchase merchandise still within the mfr's recommended lifespan.

cakes are expired, so they let you swap it with a "fresh" one.
I did that for a handful of cakes and a few other items that were expired as well.
