Parental Control for internet use (MSN, Facebook etc)
Is there a parental control software which allows you to monitor and/or restrict a child's internet use to certain programs such as MSN and Facebook. One example would be that you would like to control the hours that MSN messenger is available to them. We all know that there are lots of kids out there who I'm sure go behind their parents back and log in when the parents aren't watching

Try to set up limited internet access from the router side of things if you can help it and if you know how to do it. If your router supports QoS, you can just make it such that the bandwidth they receive is so little that it makes internet access slower than 56k. (And therefore they'll just not go on during those times)

if you use a linksys router, you can access the routers settings by entering:
192.168.1.1
password: admin
and click the internet restrictions tab.
you can enter the computers IP address that you want to prevent from accessing facebook.com. But to block msn messenger you will have to find out what ports it uses and block those.
Seeing as how you are a newbie, you're going to have to ask someone you know to set this up for you.
But it can be done if you have a router.
