Dunno about other cities, but in Ottawa, you only pay at the meter according to the meter's hours of operations, even if it says Parking from 7am to 7pm, you only pay from 8am to 5:30am.

Parking Meters free after 5:30?
On the parking meter it says Monday - Saturday 9am to 5:30 PM. Does that mean they are free from Saturday 5:30 until Monday morning, and we can park there freely?

A note to people in Toronto who park after the "pay parking enforced"...
Paid parking ended at 12am, so my buddy parked on the side street, free till 8am. He gets a ticket at 3am for "parking longer than 3 hours on a city street". This being said, I've parked there and had friends parked there over 15 times with no ticket. So its just bad luck. $30 ticket though. I asked the parking patroller (comes around about once an hour) and he said someone probably complained (although there was 10+ cars)_______________

yeah.. you only get ticketed if people complain...Sometimes you might be taking up someone elses parking spot! Those side streets with permit parking are quite limited in d/t toronto...
the side streets near my house get rammed packed after 9pm when everyone gets home from work orwhatever_______________

hm, didn't know about that rule of only 3 hours. Good to know, but i think it's not enforced. and it's stupid to get the ticket for that.

May 17th, 2008 09:39 PM #10http://www.toronto.ca/transportation...arking_faq.htmHow long can I park on the street if there are no signs posted?
In the City of Toronto, a three-hour limit exists on public roads where no other parking regulations are posted. Signs advising visitors to the city of this regulation are posted at the access points to the city and when exiting from a Provincial highway.
The three-hour limit is enforced by calling the Toronto Police Service, Parking Enforcement Unit at 416-808-6600. This regulation is only enforced upon request
From the city website itself.
I parked outside my apartment on the street for a year with only one ticket, and it was the first nigh I had the apartment oddly enough.Last edited by jason9945; May 18th, 2008 at 11:28 AM.
