Part time Nanny
A friend has a nanny with a work visa. They do not need her for the full 5 days any longer.
We are looking to have their nanny at our place for 2 days a week.
I thought it was as easy as paying him directly for the 2 days since he was taking care of the nanny's paperwork and taxes, but he advised that was incorrect.
Can someone advise if I have to open up a Business Number and WSIB for her?
This is not going to be perm position, just 2 days a week part time and for probably 1 year.
Thanks

If the nanny's under the Live in Caregiver Program, she can't have 2 employers or she risk being sent back to where she came from as it's a violation of the program, and the current employer will be banned from getting another Live in Caregiver for a couple of years.

Under "Work permit requirements"
-------------
You cannot work for more than one employer under the Live-in Caregiver Program. Your work permit specifies your employer and the type of work you may perform while you are in Canada...

If you think you want to hire a part-time nanny, you should be willing to look at both the pros and cons of the potential situation. Part-time nannies may have several jobs to fill out their schedule. They may work as a nanny for different families in your neighborhood, or they may have part-time jobs elsewhere. Anyway you can check out here-

I believe that WSIB is only required when the nanny works more than a certain minimum number of hours per week (27 hrs/week if memory serves -- I may be mis-remembering, though.)

Well, you could do it on the *sly*, as many others before you have likely done, but you wouldn't get a receipt and it might be a risk to her... Risk to you is probably minimal, really.
