I do use the Mastercard...where I can't use my visa card. Costco, No Frills etc. I'm in Ontario.

If I buy gas here on the Mastercard, I get 4 cents/litre in points plus 1% for the purchase.
50L of gas=$2. 00 in points plus around $.58 for the purchase = $2.58.

Use pc points and visa...2 cents/litre plus 4% for the purchase. $1.00 in points plus $2.34 cashback on the visa =$3.34

Groceries at Superstore on Mastercard is 3% total (1% pc points + 2% pc financial).

Groceries using the card for points only and paying with my Visa = 1% pc points + 4% cashback on the Visa = 5%.
ok so you must have the non world elite card? if you have the world elite card you would be better to use that at superstore gas stations. you would get 4 + 3%

for me on 50L, assuming 1$ per litre (its 97 cents today) (in Alberta)
I would get
50L x 35 base pc points - 1750 points
50L x 35 mastercard points - 1750 points
50$ x 3% - 1500 points

total on a 50L/50$ fill, is 5000 points (10% back)

So basically, RateSupermarket
(Kanetix Ltd) gets all our sensitive credit details and keeps it stored for their own use and for resale.

I'd happily provide it to the credit agency or PC Financial but am less interested in giving it to Kanetix Ltd and their 'partners'.

Collecting personal identifiable information

RateSupermarket.ca offers visitors the option to find rates for finanical products and personalized quotes and gathers personal information as part of these processes. Depending on the province, this may include obtaining your credit score from a credit reporting agency, or require you to provide details regarding your credit history.

This information, along with the other details you enter will be used to provide you with a personalized offer and to determine the payment options that will be available to you.

I do have the world elite, but I don't believe it pays 3% on gas purchase at their gas stations. I could be wrong though.

My car will need gas either tomorrow or Friday so I'll pay for it with my Mastercard and report back.

It does give you 3% at Maxi/Provigo/Loblaws gas station.

Both: ACTIVATE AND make at least ONE purchase.
I just like to collect things! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I got the PC Financial Mastercard, and wondered how the points show up in my PC Optimum. Do we get the points immediately? Or on a monthly basis? Because when I look at my account, the PC Financial Earn transactions, do not seem to match my purchase transactions.

They don't.

They have this complicated weekly sum/average/look in the stars for signs approach to PC points awarded for PC financial payments. I never understood why they do that ... It could have something to do with those 2-3 days needed to confirm the transactions.

A couple of years ago I remember doing a "test" for a week and the total for the week in PC points was very close to whatever I calculated per transaction. Anyone else maybe want to share a more recent test?

This application process takes a long time!
I applied for the card on January 25th. I got a call from PC Financial on Feb 13 to ask some security questions and got approved that day, but will have to wait for the card in the mail.

heres how mine works, its pretty constant
I spend 100$ at shoppers for example
any offers on PC card or instore points are awarded right away
the 100$ will show as pending on my mastercard portal
2-3 days later I will get the base points based on the basic mastercard which is 1.5% so 1500 points
1-2 days later I will get the bonus world elite points, which is 3%, so another 3000 points.
shoppers is higher now then it was before.

Oh is that how they do it. Thank you for explaining. It makes so much more sense now.

You're probably OK but I would never give any credit or security information to an INBOUND telephone call. Only call them with the info.

For the initial application with RateSupermarket, does our credit information go to them and they forward it, or do you get transferred to PCF's site?
