Moto G5 $139

Deal Link:
Expiry:
April 3, 2018
Retailer:
PC Mobile
See PC mobile are offering the Moto G5 for $139
This coupled with various Optimum offers and/or No Tax day could make this hot

We bought this in Dec ($150+no tax+PC Plus offer = $130) for my daughter and been impressed with it since
Decent phone for the price tag - We also have the ZTE Axon mini 7 and the consensus (from us) seems to be the Moto just shades it for a similar price

How does this phone compare to the Motorola G4 Play model? Worth the upgrade?

Also, is there a No Tax day coming up?

Both should work with freedom. I personally would go for the axon 7 mini, it's older but specs wise it either ties with or beats the g5 in most categories.
Older processor mind you but the one extra gig of ram makes the difference.

Axon 7 mini from PC mobile has bell firmware on it and afaik updates from bell have not been pushed through so the phone is stuck on the Android version out of box. Also about a month after purchase the in-call microphone stopped working and people are unable to hear me when making calls, appears to be a hardware issue as a factory reset did not fix it, it also appears to be a fairly common issue with no fix. The manufacturer offers a 2 year warranty so this is my next recourse but I haven't made the call yet.

Edit: also worth noting that I bought the same phone from canadacomputers at a slightly higher cost and have experienced none of the problems above, overall great phone for the cost

That comparison page is actually a tad misleading with regards to the SD 617 specs, it's an Octacore, but it's split, 4x1.5GHz and 4x1.2Ghz compared to the SD 430 specs (8x1.4Ghz). All of those are technically "up to xxGhz" accordingly. So conceivably, it's possible for the 430 to perform better in some situations, along with its newer GPU.

Also, the G5 should receive Android Oreo.

According to gsmarena the LTE band support is:
4G bands LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 19(800), 20(800), 28(700), 38(2600), 40(2300)

This is horrible for Canada, only B7 for Rogers, and only B5 and B7 for Bellus? I must be searching for the wrong thing. Anybody have a correct listing for LTE band support?

Perfect, thanks!

No good for FM/Wind, but otherwise great LTE support.

No chance. No Canadian carrier would sell a dual sim phone, it's the antithesis of what a carrier wants you to do.

Moto G are such good phone.

The OS is extremely stable, there's zero bloatware, it use a pure Android interface and usually have a pretty decent battery longevity and great CPU for 99% of smartphone user.

At this price, this is a steal.

I was not aware of this issue. My brother had the axon mini and still uses it as a backup if his primary goes out. He never mentioned a microphone issue, but I'll ask him out of curiosity. And yes, definitely the OS update is important to note especially since the g5 is upgradeable to Oreo.

You pay $139 take the phone and throw your sim card in and you're good to go.
