I have a K100d and I am told KX has a plastic body (on par with Canon's and Entry level Nikons). However, bare in mind that back in the days (last year or so), the Pentax body itself compared with mid-range Nikon/Canon. (built quality).
However, I am very happy with Pentax K100d and it has taken pictures which rival my buddy's Nikon d80.

Pentax K-X
does anyone hav any information on when the camera will be released in Canada? I haven't seen them anywhere at all... I want to get my hands on one and see how it actually feels in my hand. The specs are indeed very very impressive.

body wise .. yes its the k-m .. but specs wise its a bit better than k-m
few neat features.. 4.7fpbs burst shooting... HD video 720p.. iso expandable to 12800.. lots of neat image editing features with in the camera and also the addition of cross processed look within the camera..
but as mentioned.. the body doesn't really hold up to other better build cameras.. also the lack of LCD on top.. lack of buttons on the camera are downers..
but for the price.. its a good buy nonetheless.. and i remember hearing the date of Oct. 17th for the release but it was pushed 15 days later due to the high demand for the camera and lack of supply (probably because of all the pre-orders.. almost every camera shop is selling this camera on a pre-order.. so you are probably looking at end of october.. )

That new Sony sensor ( I think the same one is used in the A500 and A550 ) is looking pretty good.

Whoever comes up with these names and letters for Pentax?
Are they high on grass or what?
Why can't they do something simple like Nikon/Canon/Sony
Dx = professional series
Dxxx = prosumer series
Dxx = consumer series
Dxxxx = entry-level series
*ist? (how do you even pronounce it?)
K-D?
K-X?

Well they sort of do have a bit of a convention that has only recently become consistent:
K7 is the newest and highest end model
K10D, K20D are the higher end models
K100D,K200D are the mid-range models
K2000 is the entry level model but called K-m as well
K-x is a mystery because it would fall around the "entry level with mid-range features" category. It also doesn't help that there's the Pentax Kx (sans hypen) which was a film camera.
The *ist models are usually pronounced "-ist" like "artist".
Hopefully they'll get their model numbering stabilized.

Hey guys this camera looks like a real bargain. I'm hoping to go travelling with it and the AA batteries are a plus.
What would you guys recommend for a fast, cheap prime on the pentax for shooting in available light? Something like the Nikon 35mm f1.8. Nobody else seems to have something comparable...It's enough for me to buy into the system._______________
I hope Life isn't one big joke because I don't get it.

One of my friend shoots Pentax, he has an old 41mm Pentax prime, I thought it was a weird focal length but whatevers. I tried that lens on his K-7, it's definitely very nice. I actually like the K-7 alot, he picked the body up for $1,400 new and its a pretty damned good camera for that price.
K-x is getting good reviews though outta the gate. I would say its worth a look, my friend has some really nice Pentax primes but they're all older so I don't know if they're still being made or available new anymore, may have to look into the used market._______________
