PepsiCO (USA) paying out PayPal for eating pop and chips - PepCoin.com

So PepsiCo in the US has a new scheme where you buy a drink and a bag of snacks and earn $.37. Once you eat enough junk food to make $2.00, your credits are transferred to you by PayPal.

It seems ironic to me that after so many years of discussion about sugar taxes and junk food taxes, the opposite is happening.

That money has to come from somewhere, though. Looks like Pepsi is either taking a hit to their profit margin or will raise prices to compensate.

It sounds like such a pain in the *** to even collect the points. A time limit? Seriously?

Well it's 48 hours to enter a qualifying pair, and you can only enter 3 pop/chips pairs a day, so a diligent person could make $1.11/day. Kids would be totally into it.

They must have calculated only x percent of people will collect so they will pay out a limited amount, and it is worth that money to indoctrinate kids to using their products.

Probably being taken from their marketing expense. If it works, it’s really just 10% surcharge to sell more product so it’s a win win for them.
