Well, I've been working as a pharmacy assistance for a few months. I did not go to college, it's pretty much a student job for me now!
I don't see why you would need to go to college to become a pharmacy assistance
You can learn everything on the job pretty quickly. The only difference is that people who go to college make a bit more money.
Salaries are not that high, I think wages would be around $12-15 per hour, but I'm not quite sure.
I don't know much about the medical assistance program. But I think the pays for that would be higher than pharmacy assistance, not quite sure!

pharmacy technicians are moving towards being certified by the college of pharmacists in the next few years, which means that having a designation/diploma becomes more important. whether or not realistically that would apply to working as a tech in community remains to be seen (i.e. the lower paid counterparts). hospitals however, will most likely be quicker to adopt the certified techs (i.e. some are sending their techs to get certification right now), and will most likely hire based off of this.
the job prospects of a community pharmacy technician in toronto right now aren't that great, but may be decent in 'areas of need.' with the college okaying the virtual dispensing machines, there is some uncertainty around the role of techs in community practice... but the change won't really affect those in hospitals.
