Fwiw in case you live/work close to PCV and/or cannot wait, their 2500k combo is at $345.95 (haven't bought from them though, so this is just for info):

For the AMD combo, the one that NCIX sells is superior to that of Newegg's because of the 790FX chipset on the motherboard.

For the Intel combo, it depends on preference, really. Brand loyalty is the way to go on this one.

I don't think that the extra $70 is justified in getting the Intel combos though unless you're planning to overclock it.

Depends on your needs, no USB/SATA3 on the NCIX offering, and more expensive as well.

If you don't need the best performance for your money, OK; most people nowadays are better off with low end processors anyway.

But why would RFDers (meaning people who care about saving money) consider this K version of the Intel processor at all if they're not planning to overclock it?

15$ to get the K is worth it. It is so easy to OC.....got mine to 4.6Ghz effortless....its a beast

The thread is about the K version, which of course is for overclocking.

And exactly because it's so easy to overclock with it, I was puzzled by the previous poster saying "unless you're planning to overclock it" as if it's some kind of niche use - I mean IMO that's the point of buying it, that you wish to have the ability to OC it at some point.

I would think most RFDers who buys PC parts would be overclockers. After all isn't the point of RFD to get the most bang for the buck? And that's what you would be getting by overclocking.

When you're spending 900$ on a new rig and you want to save 15$ to not get the K version, you're stupid even if you don't overclock.

3-4 years down the line when it starts to be sluggish you could start overclocking and give it new life

I thought modern CPUs automatically overclock themselves when they detect that they need extra power and the temp is not too high?

Anyways the prices of these bundles don't seem any better than what you can find if you price those components separately.

second part is true.. first part... not so much

hyper thread boost is only 1 blck higher( another multiplier usually)... where as these chips can go to as high as 5.0 ghz... needs to be manually set in the bios and have well supported third party and external devices, ie nice PSU, cooler
