Phone on plan - limitations once unlocked?

Hi all,

I have a question whose answer should be pretty simple... I think.

I want to get a Moto G7 for my dad. In Canada, this phone is currently sold exclusively by Videotron. Given that I am right now negotiating for a new plan with them, I thought of something: to get the phone as part of my plan. It would end up being 240 instead of $350 this way: $0 upfront, $10 per month added to plan, 24- month contract.

My question: am I right in assuming that once I've unlocked the phone by using their online tool, my dad can then use the phone instead of me using his Koodo sim, without any limitation? I've used foreign SIM cards with the S8 I got and unlocked through Videotron without any issue, so I don't see where the problem might be, but was wondering whether I was missing something obvious.

Thanks!

You got it. Unless videotron operates on drastically different frequencies than the Big 3, your good to go!!

Phone should come unlock, it has been that way since Dec. '17.

Given its a G7 it wouldn't surprise me that its still locked to Videotron.
