Place to learn how to properly install a car seat

I bought new car seats for my kids, read the instructions and it seems pretty straight forward.

But as a new parent and finally having the kids alone on my time, I want some guidance on how to properly restrain the car seat.

Where's the best place to take them and have the installation inspected?

Staff at your local police station or firehouse will gladly help you.

Your best bet in Brampton is to contact here: http://www.ctfirstaid.com/Car-Seat-Clinics.html

There's a clinic June 1st :)
Unfortunately, that clinic is in south-west Mississauga - kinda far from Brampton.
Here are some other options: http://www.sjapeel.ca/carseatappointment
There's more info on the service at http://www.sjapeel.ca/carseatteam

Safety Superstore has a free car seat clinic this Saturday at their Mississauga location.

Extract from email I received:

Hello Safety Superstore subscriber!

Just a reminder that we are having another car seat clinic Saturday June 1st, 2013, at our Mississauga/Oakville location. No appointments needed. Just drop in between the hours of 11:00am - 2:00pm and we will be more than happy to install or check your seat at no charge! This car seat clinic is with Safety Superstore Installers and Child Passenger Safe Association of Canada (CPSAC). James Fitzpatrick, Child Passenger Safety Advocate, will be here to answer all of your car seat related questions or concerns.

Practice.

In the beginning it was a nightmare, but now I do it in a few seconds.

St. John Ambulance does car seat clinics in various municipalities. Someone already directed you there, but they're good. We've used them twice. I'm pretty sure police and fire stations don't do this anymore, at least not where I live.

I don't doubt what you're saying, but then how are the police properly trained to hand out tickets for improperly installed seats?

If you haven't found the site already www.car-seat.org is a fantastic resource, I'm sure they would have lots of suggestions on car seat techs in your area and any other car seat questions. There is a Canadian and international section.

Yes -- great resource. On facebook there is also a group called car seats for the littles that also can provide advice regarding car seat installation. There's also a couple smaller groups out there as well that are pretty good too.

Canada has a governing body for car seat technicians, it's fairly new (CPSAC or The Child Passenger Safety Association of Canada). You could also contact them to seek out technicians in your area.

I just got my Diono professionally installed by this guy:

http://www.carseatinstallers.com/

Great guy. He carefully explains in details how everything works and offers to call him for any further questions, Great service!

Price is reasonable comparing that you need to make a donation to St. John's ambulence anyways and he can come to your home directly during evening hours as well.
