Playstation 2 USB... What's for?

Is there any expert in the console here?

I have a PS2 Slim silver version and there are 2 USB in the front. What's the purpose of that? Is there a way to use this console to watch movie directly from the USB? Watching movie from DVD could kill the len.

USB (External HD) --> PS2 --> TV --> we watch movie (avi, mpg...) on TV.

Will it work? Any idea?

If this is possible, then this console is the ultimate one.
