I would like to get a 52mm Circular Polarizer for my Nikon 18-55 VR Lens. I currently have a Hoya UV Filter now (got it free with my lens).
In the past, I have used a B+W UV Filter and a Hoya HMC 7 layer Circular Polarizer and they seemed decent.
Are the B+W Circ. Polarizer's superior to the Hoya HMC ones? Also, someone said you can shoot with a circular polarizer all the time if you just turn the filter to not polarize. Is there any merit to this? I tend to have a UV filter all the time and use the polarizer for landscapes, to to reduce glare on water and from window reflections.
Also, anyone sell these at good prices? I see Ebay sells the Hoya HMC filters for about 1/2 the price of Henrys.

B+W filters are top quality filters, but are too expensive for my tastes, that's why I stick to the Hoya/Kenko Pro1 filters. I buy my filters from an eBay seller by the name of BestEastern that is located in Kowloon/Hong Kong. I have never had a problem with the transaction, shipping or items.

Thanks for the tip. I ordered it from their www.hvstar.com site and saved a few $$ over the ebay store. I picked up the Hoya 52mm PRO1 Super HMC Circular Polarizing Filter. Should be decent.

I have a Tiffen, Hoya, Rodenstock, and B+W. The main differences is that the Rodenstock and B+W are brass and will last a lot longer if used a lot. The award goes to the Rodenstock (same as Heliopan) for the most durable as if I throw it, it could kill a human being.

Nikon CPL is suppose to be the best.
Most Nikonians use Nikon CPL, and don't prefer anything else over them.
Hoya/Kenko, same thing, Kenko is the parent company of Hoya.
B+W is from germany, and thats where you find all the best glass. Ring construction material on B+W screams quality. Once you try it, you probably wont go back to Hoya, etc.

I don't think he needs to spend the big bucks on a Nikon or B+W CPL, a midrange multi-coated Hoya should be more than good enough already.

Best Eastern and HVSTAR are now the same company...
There is some debate to whether the B+W filters there are legit as they are sooo under priced.
Most believe they are real as come people have actually compared side by side.
I have bought over 15 B+W filters from there without any problems whatsoever.
www.hvstar.com gets my vote._______________

I think one needs to consider the cost of the lens they are using before they go crazy over filters. The Nikon 18-55VR lens cost me $150. I don't see any point in spending too much for a filter. I think the Hoya HMC Pro1 that I got should be decent enough. I agree B+W filter quality is really good. I never heard of B+W before and just told the guy at Henry's when I bought my Film Nikon years ago "give me a decent quality UV filter and a good quality Circular Polarizer" and he suggested me these ones.
The Nikon Circular Polarizers are pretty costly (a search showed up asking $200 for these things). Are these really that costly?

I have B+W, Hoya/Kenko, and Nikon CPLs. I can stay that the B+W and the Nikons are on my buy again list while the Hoya not so much.
With the Hoya Pro-1, I find that it is extremely difficult to keep clean and seems to scratch very easily compared to the B+Ws. One of my B+Ws, the ring holding on the glass is a bit lose - I've only had the filter for more that 12 years....
