- apparently if you mod this version (V12 or SCPH-700xx) it causes a problem with the laser?
That's why you should mod the ps2 and play only with backups to recoup the costs.

yah.... now that the new slim PSTwo is out.... u'll have to wait at least couple months b4 they add "bundle packages" for sale that include accessories and or games... its just like when the old PS2 came out.... there was NO "bundle" when it first came out so if u wanted it u had the buy the console and games separately.... i think this is the case for all consoles nowadays.... the company wants to make more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$......

Bought a PS2 about 2 years back and did just that.. shelled out enough cash for the console, extra controllers, memory card, and 2 games...
I must have spent over 500 dollars at the time.
I just bought myself a gamecube a few months back. 130 bucks, and it came with two games - metroid & zelda. (BB Deal back in October). Got my hands on a wireless controller and a cheapo no name memory card and was set. I've spent about 250 on my Gamecube by now... (purchased more games as well)... and I'm completely satisfied with it..
One thing I love is how quickly the games load compared to PS2... I really can't stand waiting for anything anymore.
For those of you thinking of getting a ps2... they are a lot of fun... but not worth all the hype.. Xbox live is amazing if your into multiplayer games. It get a gamecube if you want to do a little bit of gaming when you get home from work.
Just my two cents.
