Anyone out there using PLEX, Subsonic or other media servers? I don' t know if it is the nature of the servers (or server software) or an issue with my hardware but I find it slow when it loads up the databases on the client side. I am using an HP EX-475 server with no upgrades and on the client side I am using windows machines, WD Live TV (via DLNA server) and also an android tablet.
Looking for tips to get a speed boost and get it to be more responsive. Even when I load up XBMC and use samba shares I find it to be slow to read the file listings (with music, movies and tv shows).
Suggestions or is this normal? I am using a wireless N connection to connect to the server and the server is physically connected to the router.

I use subsonic under ubuntu 11 on a p4 with 2 gb ram, and notice no issues on a playbook client. Media is hosted on other servers/nas.
Are you using windows or ubuntu as a base OS?

i used to use subsonic, hosted on the acer h340 whs
it'd always take forever to load my playlist because it had to dig through all the files before display it... not very smart
don't know if they improved that behaviour yet_______________
