police license plate scanners

I know in uk police can scan your license plate on the road and get insurance, license plate and other information.

Same technology in Ontario?

Just curious.

Same tech is used widely in Quebec, so no reason why not in Ontario.

The additional 27 vehicles will allow us to scan thousands more plates every day over a broader geographic range in the province,” said OPP Deputy Commissioner Bill Blair.

The OPP will be using the Ministry of Transportation databases to scan driver information.

Officials say only those scanned plates that match the “hot list” will be stored for “evidentiary purposes.”

Police say data collected from plates that don’t generate a hit are automatically deleted from the onboard computer system every 10 minutes.

The system is capable of scanning approximately 3,600 plates per hour.

I know they also like to type in plate numbers on their laptop for random checks when they are sitting at the lights too.

My buddy's wife works for parking enforcement and drives one of these every night, just cruising up and down streets, scanning parked cars. She was once rammed as the dumbo thought she was a cop.

I was watching a news video about this. Definitely is in Ontario. Policy officer was showing a demonstration, it scans as they drive by cars in regular traffic - the vehicle being scanned can be in motion. If it finds a hit, an audible alert in the cabin sounds and the policy knows to pull the vehicle over. It all happens in a matter of seconds. They don't have to take their eyes off the road at all. Pretty nifty I think.

Toronto has them....that's why they will spin around and nail you even when you weren't speeding. My brother always gets pulled over cause they are looking for his twin and the system alerts the officer.

Flagrantly breaking our distracted driving laws.
Could HAVE, not could OF. What does 'could of' even mean?
