Popeye's Chicken - Why Halal?
Is Popeye's Chicken Muslim-owned? I'm wondering why the Popeye's chicken joints that I've been to are now only selling halal chicken. I am not Muslim, and while the chicken is technically still chicken, I'd rather have non-halal chicken. At least with the Pickel Barrel (which I think has Jewish owners), not everything is kosher - you do have a choice. Too bad Popeye's isn't like this, at least as far as I can tell. Maybe I'm not visiting enough Popeye's locations.

all marketing, don't let it get to you. i'd take it one step further and say they're "vegan friendly"

Can I ask why you'd rather have non-halal chicken vs. halal chicken?

theres no difference in taste between halal and non halal chicken.
its just the way its treated before being slaughtered...

Most Popeyes I've been to seem to be run by Muslims and do serve halal chicken.
Same with both Nando's I've visited in the Peel region.
Nothing wrong with halal as it's just as Urban said in the way the chciken is treated when killed.
As much blood must exit the body and a prayer is usually said in Arabic.
Maple Lodge provides Halal chicken to KFC now too but not sure if all KFCs carry halal chicken or not.
KFC still sells their products with bacon in it though.

yea, kfc's halal chicken is only in certain regions. i wouldnt be surprised if they eventually converted all to halal. there is a big untapped Muslim-friendly fast food market that is just waiting to be filled.

Even the Dixie lee in Ottawa (the Walkley rd one) they used to have a big sigh when they opened that said their food was Halal.
I don't think the owner was arabic- but that part of the city is very muslim and arabic populated.
Also I think Halal meat is supposed to be "cleaner" or something like that.

Several years ago there were just a few Popeye's locations in the GTA, but over the last 5-6 years they've grown like crazy... I guess the market is there for them to do so. I know that most of the locations are halal (even in Niagara Falls), but I don't know if all of them are. And yes, it's because the owners are Muslim.
(and guess what... chances are that the beef you eat is halal, too!)
