Porting out without canceling

Sorry if it has already been asked. I tried but could not find a solution.

I have a Fido line (1 year & 5 months into contract). I want to port out the # to another carrier. Is there a way to get a new number on line to avoid paying device balance.

Just in case I change #, can I get old # on another line?
Thanks.

I may be mistaken but the only possible scenarios are:

  1. port Fido number to another carrier and the plan is automatically cancelled; or
  2. change Fido number, keep plan, and previous Fido number is lost.

When the number is lost, it should be available to be reassigned to others. Is the process that random I don't have any chance?

My understanding is that Fido can't reassign the lost number for a certain number of days.

As per Fido rep, there is 30 days sleep period before it would be back in the pool to be reassigned.

What your trying to do is blocked by policy. Fido doesnt allow reassigning of the plan without the number.

Want to switch to Koodo. Better plan, better service, no contact.
